T 2.5, the wonder years
11 weeks?
the lj page says it's been 11 weeks since I've written anything.
ouch.
so I'm wracking my brain trying to think of something to "talk" about.
well, it's my soap box. so here's something...
T 2.5 the sara thingy.
so like every other semi-otako terminator geek I have been salivating for this to come out.
luckily for my I'm outside the loop and have only known for a few weeks.
(a new answer for the eternal question "how do you drive a (blank) crazy")
and of corse the fact that summer glau (river tam from firefly/serenity) is in it as a terminator just makes the waiting interminable.
of course that makes me worry. not for us, for her.
I mean she is a really good actor, and I'm hoping she's not getting stuck/struck by the sci-fi curse. (you know the one. where good actors do 1 sf show and can't get any other types of roles.)
so I waited. paced. waited some more. I even turned on the tv early to maake sure I didn't miss it.
and it was good.
we start with the main characters sara connor, pstd poster girl, john conner, emo boy, and cameron the mystery machine.
add in the plot. more terminators sent from skynet (to kill sara, john, bobby, annette, etc.), and a terminator sent to save them. (...a sexy girl robot, heh heh...)
throw in a twist of "wtf! we killed that thing!" (aka why is there a skynet, and why did we bother?)
gently fold in real live stunts, explosions, fights, guns, and hitting the terminator with a pick-up truck (I swear, that never gets old).
and in this day when reality is tv and production is poking your lab animals w/a stick... (yes, I have watched survivor. how can you tell?)
top with drama. sara (and who wouldn't have problems after only two attempts on her life that resulted in more damage than hurricane katrina), john (who in rebellion to his mom has gone emo), sara's ex who gets dumped because she's crazy, etc.
btw- how can john enjoy an action flick? is he saying to himself "I've blown up bigger builings than that." after watching "indepedence day"?
sure there are a few plot holes that had me pulling my hair out. metal going through time travel? remote control robots? resistance fighters in the past? what happened to "one way trip"? what's with the red vs blue terminators?
and a few questions/comments.
. like how did these things get better programming? and why are they acting more human? that was part of the whole term thing. it just stands there while you launch an icbm at it. and then it gets back up.
. "cyborg, unknown type, run-awaaay!", does this happen when they run into mice too? "rodent, unknown type. run away screaming like little girl."
. and what's with jon? "sure I can shoot any gun known to man, rob banks, drive like mario andreti, but all the girls around me can kick my but so I'll just mope, grouse, and be a jerk"
. poke-terminators. get not only the red and blue set, soon there will be the silver, gold, and orange sets too...
. red terminator vs blue. is this a jedi thing? "jon come to the dark side. we have red light sabers and all the coolest clothes..."
anyway, like all but the first T movie it has plot issues. and I will snark at it. but you know I'll by glued to my set every monday...
