Mike headed over to the hotel early in the morning to pester Mary for extra ammunition. She insisted on going with him if he was going to do something foolish. So the two of them were armed with guns and flashlights as they hunted down the creepy statues.
Mary
"So, you want to explain to me why we're doing this?" asked Mary, shining her flashlight ahead of her, keeping a watchful eye for any angels.
Mike
"We are trying to see if we can take out at least one of these angels to see if we can learn anything from it," explained Mike, who had his back to her as he watched for angels sneaking up from behind.
Mary
"What if they don't talk?" asked Mary.
Mike
"Then we shoot," said Mike. "In the meantime, tell me about who we know that's been taken."
Mary
"I don't see how shooting the statues will bring people back. What if it eliminates any chance of finding everyone again?" Mary pointed out.
"As far as who's been taken, I know of Turtle and Jeff."
Mike
"I've met Turtle. Nice kid, very bright for her age," said Mike bitterly. "I don't like this at all. These kids deserve a chance to live out their lives here, not stuck somewhere in the past."
He sighed. "If they were to leave us clues to find, what do you think they would be?"
Mary
"Jeff is terrified of phones and his mother. He's obsessed with breasts and lesbians," said Mary. "And Turtle is better with money than anyone else I know, except maybe Sam Marquez."
She looked closely at Mike. "Are you okay?"
Mike
"No," groaned Mike. "I've never told you this, but I had a cousin named Michelle. We were the same age, we grew up together, and she was almost like having a twin sister."
Mary
"Then something happened to her?" guessed Mary.
Mike
"When we turned 14, she fell in with a bad crowd," explained Mike. "The first time she ran away from home, she came back two weeks later. When she ran away a second time, I really thought that she would come back. Then, one day I was home alone when she called, begging for help. She got cut off and I never heard from her again."
Mary
"Oh my God, Mike," said Mary, her eyes welling up with tears.
Mike
"Ed pulled in a few favors a couple years ago to see if he could find her," Mike went on. "Turns out that they found her body a few years after she made that phone call, but they weren't able to identify her until Ed started looking into Jane Does matching Michelle's description."
Mary
"Oh, Mike, I'm so sorry," said Mary, stopping to give him a hug. "There was nothing you could have done. It's not your fault."
Mike
"But now I have a chance to help these kids," said Mike. "I just can't sit there and do nothing."
Mary
"You're not going to solve it by getting taken yourself," Mary pointed out.
Mike
"True," said Mike. He sighed and wrapped his arm around her waist. "Want to head back? It's not worth it for you to get taken either. Your fiancé would probably kill me if that happened."
Mary
"Come on. Let's go back to the hotel and get someone to open up the kitchen. We'll have a nice big breakfast," said Mary with as much cheerfulness as she could muster.
It would be just their luck, however, that as they decide to turn around and go back,
they actually start running into angels. [Okay for broadcast, NFI, OOC = <3]
