House + Ealing byelection + work + Hot news on local Immigration case

Jul 03, 2007 23:13

Home- We have now applied for the mortgage (variable long term tracker baserate 0.2%)...given money to our Solicitor...started boxing clever with our stuff and I have been throwing away old papers, the more I ditch now the less I'l have to carry and take with me in the move...*G* Already trying to eat through our larder...don't need much of an excuse

Please spread this, Campaign- Ryedale CAB have been helping an Israel national who has agreed to public disclosure of her case for any media attention, to raise awareness of this travesty. Due to Immigration staffs error she now faces deportation. This grieving widow has just lost her husband but because immigration staff failed to check her status on entry to the uk and consequently used the wrong stamp for her situation on her passport, she doesn't have the rights under law she should be entitled to having married a British national, if the immigrations staff had put the right stamp in her passport, using due diligence! This is Official Error and this grieving widow is due to be sent back in novemeber after the Minister refused to consider her case as it is outside the immigration rules and wouldn't apply the rules she should be under as the stamp is the stamp (how fastidious and petty!), fortunately we have now got a change in minister, maybe they might reconsider the decision, to send back this local widow, who has just lost her partner to a place she has severed ties namely Tel Aviv, being in her fifties she planned to settle here, she works at Castle Howard and has roots here in our community. Perhaps to prevent this happening again ports of entry should have warning notices advising clients due dilligance by Immigration officers in carrying out their duties is not guaranteed, until then aren't the public able to expect officials to do the right thing and when they make a mistake to admit official error and make it right...If we just accept injustice like this we make it acceptable, which it clearly isn't, this is peoples lives. I certainly wouldn't like it done to me, do to others as you would be done by is a fairly basic moral stand point. If we don't sort out our administration how can we address corruption and incompetency abroad without being hypercritical, Will Gordon sort it out?

Politics- Byelections in Ealing Southall where the Lib Dems came second to Labour at the general election and Tony' old seat in sedgefield

Indepth politics- Nigel Bakhai has just been selected by local Liberal Democrats to be the candidate in the Ealing Southall by-election. http://ealinglibdems.org.uk/pages/southallcampaignhq.html Nigel will be an excellent candidate. He lives in Hanwell, in the heart of the constituency. He was the Lib Dem candidate for Ealing Southall in 2005, winning a big swing from Labour with the Tories trailing in third place. He has deep roots in the local community. He is the chair of the Hanwell Steering Group and the Elthorne Safer Neighbourhood Focus Group and Vice Chair of the Greenfields Children’s Centre in Southall. The big news is the defection to us of Brij Mohan Gupta, Deputy Chair (Political) of Ealing Southall Conservatives and Vice-Chair of Southall Green and Southall Broadway Conservative ward parties. As he puts it himself: "Under David Cameron the Conservatives have become a party of style over substance. I agree with everything that Quentin Davies said about Mr Cameron."This by-election reflects Mr Cameron’s contempt for local Conservative members. His spin doctors ignored our wishes and forced the branch to accept someone whose commitment to the party is less than a week old. Almost all local Conservative party members feel like I do."

Work- Have been away doing our strategic plan for work, now home able to see my partner which is a happy sight, so good night from me...
