MIKE/TINA PROMPT POST!

I wanted to start a Mike/Tina prompt post especially since there isn't enough ficcage and/or fanart. I know we're a small group, but who knows? And I thought it would be fun. Anonymous posting optional!

Also, even if someone has completed the prompt, you are open to write your own fill for the prompt. :)

Tina's sitting up in bed, aimlessly surfing on her laptop when her phone beeps with a text from Mike. Which is weird because it's always her who initiates their late night messaging. Maybe her subtle and carefully calibrated plan to get him to try sexting has worked. She knew he was wavering the other night when she accidentally-on-purpose mentioned being in her nightie and all his subsequent replies came through late and somewhat garbled.

~can i ask u something?
*sure what
~do u still have that black dress thing u were wearing sectionals week?

Tina freezes.

*u want me to start dressing like a cheerleader again?

She hits send and stares bleakly at her phone, thinking she will if he wants her to but it's cold showing that much skin this time of year and are her outfits going to have to get skimpier and skimpier the more bored he gets and - beep

~when were u dressing like a cheerleader?

Tina blinks at the screen in confusion.

*sectionals week when i was wearing that black dress thing.

She resists adding you know, when I stupidly convinced myself you were cheating based solely on your adorkably girly chapstick preferences.

Sometimes Tina envies Rachel when she goes on one of her Finn's-so-emotionally-perceptive rants.

YES she thumbs pointedly into her phone.

*cuz i thought u and brit were u know and u might like me better if i dressed like her.

She's so intent on waiting for another text she actually jumps when the phone rings.

'I'm gonna tell you something' Mike says as soon as she answers, 'and you have to listen even though you're gonna want to interrupt because while I'm doing this to set your mind at rest, from a certain angle it could sound kind of skeevy.'

'O-kaaay...' Tina says. Then there's a pause which she just waits out, because talking at length is one of those things Mike still has to psych himself up for.

'Remember when everything blew up at camp and I said I'd liked you for a while, and you said how long, and I said since before I joined glee?'

'Yes' Tina breathes. Just thinking about that makes her chest hurt with all the things she felt when he first said it - what but that's MONTHS how did I not notice why would I even think to notice oh god I have a boyfriend oh fuck I don't think the one I have is the one I want - 'I remember.'

'Well. Um. It was kind of...from when you all did that pep assembly.'

'Pep...wait, when we did Push It?'

'Yeah.'

'When I was shaking it like a Polaroid picture?'

There's an embarrassed cough at the other end of the line. '...yeah.'

'You're right, that does sound kind of skeevy' Tina tells him. Actually she's struggling not to laugh and wonders if this makes her a bad feminist.

'I couldn't help it!' Mike complains. 'I mean, I always thought you were kind of cute, when you weren't hiding behind your hair, and then suddenly BLAM - you're all...fierce.'

'I was?' She can't remember feeling fierce. Actually all Tina can remember of Push It is thinking HOLY SHIT THEY'RE ALL OUT THERE and trying not to jiggle right out of her tank top.

'That's what I'm saying, I don't need to see you in a Cheerios uniform to know you've got it going on. It's been burnt onto my brain for over a year now. I just need to close my eyes and...yep, there you go.'

'Ok now it just sounds skeevy full stop' Tina says. 'But it's not just that, it's...you're a footballer, you're supposed to date cheerleaders. Not weirdo outsiders like me.'

There's another pause. Then Mike says 'Tina, you were there for the whole us guys doing KISS thing, right?'

'Yeah', Tina says, not sure where this is going.

'And Toxic? Where I committed unnatural acts with a bowler hat in front of the entire school?'

'Yes?'

'And you got the part where I volunteered to seduce Finn in a corset and fishnets?'

'Yes, so?'

Mike sighs. 'So has it ever occurred to you that part of the reason I did all that because I'm not enough of a weirdo outsider for you?'

'Uh...' Tina is genuinely thrown. 'Well, it hadn't...'

'You're so...' Mike tails off. 'It's like, you wear all these way out clothes and read all these weird books and sing songs by crazy British chicks I've never heard of...and I'm just this square who takes you to dinner with his mom. Don't you think I'm worried you're going to get bored of me?'

Not while I have my sight, Tina thinks. Out loud she says 'You're not square. You're just a bit of a late bloomer on the weirdo outsider scale, that's all.'

'And I don't care who I'm supposed to date. The only girl I want to date is you.'

Suddenly Tina wants Mike to be here right now, because this is usually the part where they gaze into each other's eyes and then start making out. 'You really don't mind how I dress?'

She can actually hear the way he's shrugging in his voice. 'I like all your outfits. Ok, so I mostly like them because they've got you inside them, but they're pretty cool on their own too.'

'So why ask about that dress in particular?'

'Uhh' he sounds suddenly cagey. 'No reason.'

'Mike.'

'Well, it's just - with that little dress...and the goggles...and the way you were so angry all week...you kind of reminded me of Tank Girl.'

'...that weird 90s movie where Ice Cube played a kangaroo?'

'No...well, yeah, but, before that, it was this comic the guy who draws Gorillaz did and it was kind of like Mad Max and she lived in a tank and...ok this all sounded so much less nerdy in my head.'

'Hang on' Tina switches the phone to her other ear and grabs her laptop, 'I need to Google this.'

'Oh god, please don't' Mike begs her, 'Really, just forget I said anything.'

'Ok, I won't' Tina says, blithely typing 'tank girl comic' into Wikipedia, 'But, you're saying I should dress like her for school?'

'Um...' Mike's voice is low. 'Actually I was hoping you'd maybe only dress like her for me. When there's no chance of us being...interrupted.'

Oh. Oh.

Tina scans the article - anarchic, post-punk, absurdist...sexual deviance and substance abuse, Mike, and you're worried I think you're vanilla? - and the attached images. So it's basically Lara Croft gone grunge, right? She can work with this.

'I'm assuming you don't want me to shave my head.'

'You said you wouldn't look it up!'

Tina has to stick a hand over her mouth to stifle the giggles this time, because she can picture the exact WHAT. NO FAIR face Mike's pulling right now.

'I have to if I'm going to get this right' she tells him. 'Maybe get one of those supersoaker water guns...combat boots, some fake tats...'

'Wait, you'll do it?'

'Well, that depends...'

'On what?'

Tina flops back on her bed and smirks at the ceiling. 'We're all going to see Santa next week...you better hope you made the Nice List.'

'Oh I think I've been a good boy.'

'Yeah? So what'll you do if I give you a chance to be naughty?'

'Tina' Mike says carefully. 'I can't say that out loud. My parents are downstairs.'

Tina tries to sound innocent. 'You could always...oh, I don't know...text me?'

'...ok.'

Jackpot.

I love 'skeevy', it's got this subtle shade of no srlsy DO NOT WANT that you don't always get with 'pervy'

thinking that he's too square for Tina. - It's funny, I'd seen a couple of prompts/comments around about Tina getting insecure about Mike liking popular girls - and then it actually got addressed in Special Education, and I was like, surely it's just as likely to be happening the other way around?

LMFAO OMFG, when the mentions of this 'Tank Girl' came up, I googled it, then once I continued reading Tina did the same and the whole "NOT FAIR" thing came up and ahh .. Loved, loved, LOVED IT.

So adorable and cute in every possible way. The ending was just brilliant. BRILLIANT I TELL YOU.

AND YOU SHOULD TOTALLY MAKE ANOTHER FIC WITH THEIR SEXTING. HAHAHAHAHA.

As a Brit of a certain age, Tank Girl was the very first thing I thought of when I saw Tina in that outfit...and then I had this vision of Mike stumbling accross TG via Gorillaz and being simultaneously aroused and baffled...and then it just had to be done XD

This simultaneously adorable and hilarious at the same time. I've always gotten the sense that Mike is a little oblivious to Tina, so the characterization between the two was spot on and great to read. Plus, it was interesting to see the other side of the argument, where Mike is afraid he's not indie enough for Tina.

Oblivious is it exactly...I always get the impression that while Finn's as thick as a whale omelette but something of an emotional savant, Mike does alright academically but finds girls confusing. Tina doubly so. I mean he's got two expressions looking at her: 'I have spread my dreams at your feet' or 'WTF?'
