Had a pretty busy day today. I went downtown to a Japanese Cherry Blossom festival. I chatted up some of the people who worked at various international organizations, had some chicken teriyaki and somen noodles, and looked around a little bit. It was interesting, but very hot and crowded, and I didn't bring a hat or any sunscreen.
That whole area apparently is, or was, a sort of Japan-town. I didn't know it even existed. I poked around at the shops surrounding it and looked at this small photo gallery showing a history of Japanese people in Colorado.
Then on the way back, I had the pleasure of running into this German guy and his wife, or colleague (not sure which). We were on the same bus, and we chatted for a while in German. Was a great way for me to brush up on my speaking. He apparently works for the government, surveying how mass transit works in other countries, or something like that. At one point he told me I am quite smart, and could be doing a lot better than working at a call center. He seemed quite taken aback that I didn't have a clear goal in mind, though I did neglect to mention that I had them at one point and they didn't work out like I thought.
Really, that is the million dollar question. Sooner or later I would like to find something to settle into, that I enjoy and am good at. I feel optimistic that it will happen, even if I am a bit of a late bloomer.
Then I came home and made peanut butter cookies. I found a very simple recipe I decided to try. It calls for peanut butter, sugar, and an egg. You mix a cup of peanut butter, a cup of sugar (I used cane sugar), and the egg, put them on the sheet and bake for ten minutes. They seemed really gooey to me, but once they cooled down they hardened and weren't bad at all.
When summer hits, I really want to get out more and find new things to do. Hopefully there will be many opportunities to do that.
