[There's a soft thud of a journal hitting the ground, which is pretty much what sets it recording.  It's landed open face down; nothing to see on it but snow.  Then there's a second thud, and a faint scrabbling sound.  Pause.  Another scrabble and the journal shifts slightly on the ground, before there's a soft, high sound of distress nearby ( Read more... )

[Treebeard is in the middle of a nice long entnap. Or at least he was, until something snuggles up next to one of his legs. This is just awkward. He'll have to try and wake her up...]

Hooom....

[Well, she's not actually asleep yet. Or ...okay, she's kinda drowsy, but falling asleep is a no no, so she's trying real hard here. That ... very odd sound is going to make her blink. But no, not looking at the tree. :|]

[Well this just won't do. He can stand there for years and be fine, but she probably won't be. Simply kicking her over is not much of an option. So he'll speak in that deep, slow and rumbling voice of his.]

Young one...

[...this is Nami blinking and ...slowly craning her head back to see who's talking.]

[And there's a large bearded tree man. He'll make what appears to be an almost apologetic smile.] Hoom! It is much too cold for your kind here. Wood and stone, brick and mortar... those are your home. You should not be here. Go back to your home.

[Huh. Talking tree. That's new. Not that Kefka really cares much. He'll burn it down later. As it is, Kefka's going to be teleporting nearby and quickly erecting one of his weather repellent and Luffy repellent barriers - complete with nice and warming aura.]

I couldn't agree with you more... uh... tree. Unfortunately, this will have to do for the time being...

[Blinking kind of owlishly at the WTF talking tree - that's weird even for her.] I ...I know. Someone's coming to--

[...oh, shit. Back thumping against you now, Treebeard, as she flattens herself against the tree and turns looking for the owner of that voice. You just had to be alive again, didn't you Kefka? ...and what the hell happened to your face. Keeping her hands well out of sight.]

Uh.

[Oh hi, let's raise our voice a little so people on her journal can hear her.]

Hello, Kefka.

[Treebeard might be a little slow at getting up in the morning, getting things done, or talking... but his mind is anything but. He can tell that whoever this person is, she isn't happy to see this oddly dressed wizard. He sees no reason to correct the tree remark for now.]

Hooom... For the time being, I will take this one to her home. This is my forest, young wizard. I will take her to the borders of my land.

[Kefka gave a cursory glance at Treebeard, before looking back to Nami.]

Sorry big guy, I have something to say, and you'll find that nobody is going anywhere for the moment until I say it.

[He sighed a bit, rubbing at his forehead, visibly taxed by keeping the barrier up.]

[Giant tree is sympathetic to her plight. This is a plus. Kefka can probably burn the tree into cinders. ...yeah, that's not so good.]

So say it.

Hrooom... [Treebeard will keep quiet now. He does not like to be involved with human affairs if he can help it, nor does he have any desire for a conflict with a wizard.]

[Kefka glances back up at Treebeard, noting it.]

I simply wished to say that I am truly sorry for the rather unfortunate chain of events some time ago.

I wanted you to know that I do not blame you - or your friends - for what happened, and wished to offer a peace offering.

[...she honestly doesn't know what to say to that. Okay, firstly, she doesn't believe you. But let's face it, now is really not the time to say so. Sup, Treebeard, your human snuggler is probably trying to huddle against you even more. Made warmer by the barrier, but the fact that it's Kefka keeping her warm right now is actually more terrifying than anything else.]

...okay.

[Nice and neutral. Really, she should thank you, Kefka. Nothing like adrenalin to stop you from falling asleep in the snow. :|]

[Treebeard has heard better lies from the lips of Saruman and it took a long time before Treebeard was convinced to release that snake. Even so, it is not much his business to interfere. Even so.]

Hrum Yes, seeking forgiveness is noble. But why have you sealed us in here?

[Well, for the moment, he IS sincere. That's the way his twisted mind works. Right now, in his mind, Nami is innocent, and he DOES wish to make ammends, even if he's subconsciously making plans to torture her in the near future.]

Because there are others acquainted with her that would sooner jump to conclusions and attack before listening to reason. You - ...mister tree - would be a target as well. Even if they did mean well.

[He turns his attention back to Nami, taking a small piece of cloth from one sleeve.]

Take this, lady Nami. It has served me well in the past. It will keep you warm in the harshest of blizzards, and cool in the hottest of desserts. It was a present from... an old friend of mine.

[For a moment there is a most sincere twinge of what looks like sadness in Kefka's face. Again, his twisted mind is making his memories fit the situation, and for the moment, he is genuinely sincere in his feelings. Even if the same memories are gone a second later.]
