Jay and Nami got off to a friendly enough start when they arrived in Luceti. But Jay's callous brush-off of her after a mallynapping set Nami's temper flaring-- and while he may have had decent reason for it, instead of trying to explain once she stomped off, or just plain have a fight with her, he decided to avoid her until near Christmas and then deliver a box of live crickets to her door.
It's not the brush-off. It's not the avoidance. It's not even the crickets-- these are all things that can be explained, and she kind of thought the crickets were funny, in retrospect. Rather, it's when she finally spoke to him afterward and he sneered at her and accused her of being a terrible friend that Nami lost her temper and closed the book on any positive relationship she ever had with him. Jay is a brat, and a callous, unwise one at that, and Nami doesn't waste her time on such people.
But that said, she occasionally checks up on him discreetly because he's one of the few that arrived the same time she did. The only time she's spoken to him in well over a year is to wish him a happy Luceti anniversary.
