It might have been, if Zuko was from an earlier time too. But I get the feeling that Iroh really just... followed along in order to be with Zuko. He's a good man with his own code of honor - back in Ba Sing Se when - [...let's skip over some emotionally traumatizing parts here.] well, he helped Aang and me get away from Zuko, Azula and the Dai Li.

It made him a traitor to his country, and they imprisoned him for it, but he did it anyway. I don't think it will be a problem.
