Gilbert scowled as he chewed on the piece of pancake. He had tried six different diners throughout the week and none had succeeded in producing the result he hoped for.
Their pancakes weren't bad. In fact, they all were rather quite tasty - but somehow each one of them had fallen short of those amazing stacks he devoured at Mattie's house. By now, he was sure the kid had some awesome touch in the kitchen.
Swiftly clearing his plate, Gilbert jolted out the door. A week ago he would have never felt this joyful. It was definitely strange, and as the days rolled by, he became more and more positive this was the case. Gilbert couldn't quite put his finger on it, but for some reason, ever since his little misadventure with that kid, did he truly felt like his old self again - ecstatic, jolly and absolutely carefree. He was certain his stay at Mattie's house had lifted up his spirits. But quite pleasantly and surprisingly enough, the effect was lasting well through the week. And as confused, yet delighted Gilbert was, bade not did he want to think about it. This wonderful feeling was a rare treat, and he planned on savoring every moment of it.
Gilbert grinned cheerfully as he marched down the road. It truly was the best he'd been in months. In fact, he felt so great, he even considered helping Ludwig with some yard work his brother had long begged him to do. Or maybe better - he might even throw in a bit of cleaning as well. And to top things off, maybe he would cut out the alcohol for a day. Instead of getting stupidly drunk as usual, he might just do something productive tonight. Nothing could ruin this wonderful mood. Nothing except…
And there they were. His most detested mortal enemy and possibly the most gorgeous woman on this planet together… laughing, enjoying themselves, having a great time.
"And with that, I beat those sleazy corporate tycoons at their own game and acquired another grand promotion," Roderich boasted.
Elizabeta seductively wrapped her arms around her lover. "Second one this week, is it, Roddy? At this rate, you'll own the whole company within months!"
Gilbert growled, observing the couple closely, full displeasure and envy. What did that bastard, Roderich have that he didn't? It should be him sitting next to Eliza, whispering romantic nothings in her ears while she gently caressed every awesome inch of his body. He should be the one holding that sexy, provocative woman everyday, making sweet love to her.
"Oh Roddy, you are just so charming, you know that?" Elizabeta giggled, about to pull the other into a kiss.
Brimming with jealousy, it was far more than Gilbert could stand. He was going to set everything right. And this time he would for sure prove to Eliza that he was way more kick-ass and awesome than that dumb, wussy aristocrat she considered her boyfriend…
"Well, lo and behold! Awesome is in the house!"
"Gilbert Beilschmidt. What an unpleasant surprise to see you," Roderich coolly replied, fixating his gaze on the albino man. Eyes locked together, the two men intensely studied each other for a moment.
"What are you doing here?" Elizabeta hissed, breaking the harsh silence. "We're a bit busy, can't you see…"
"Lizzie hunny," Gilbert laughed, jumping straight to the bandwagon. "Why don't you ditch that wimpy boy toy of yours already and get yourself a real man?"
"That was rather rude of you, Mr. Beilschmidt. I suggest you apologize right now,"
"Oh, I'm sorry, Roddy," The silver haired man mocked. "Is my awesomeness too much for an uptight loser like you?"
"Your incompetence is quite appalling, Gilbert. Do you enjoy making a laughing fool out of yourself everyday?"
Gilbert fumed, glaring daggers at the haughty man in front of him. That bastard acting so high and mighty…How dare he insult him - the awesome Gilbert Beilschmidt!
Never again, was he going to lose to Roderich Edelstein… He was going to wipe that stupid grin right off that pussy boy's face. He'd be the one with the last laugh today. Oh yes, he was going to turn the tables on that bastard - starting with his fine-looking girlfriend.
"Come on, Eliza. You know I'm completely irresistible." Gilbert tried once more, giving the Brunette woman a quick wink. "So how about it, sweet cakes? Why don't you get together with the awesome me and forget that boring freak over there,"
Elizabeta frowned. "Gil, I thought we've been through this before. I have no intention of leaving Roddy, especially for the likes of you."
He grinned as he inched closer and closer to her "You're a tough one, huh? Stop denying it, babe. You want me, don't cha?"
"S-stop it, Gil! The answer's no and it always will be,"
Roderich wasted no time in igniting the next attack. "Absolutely attrocious! To think a full grown man would act so indecently in front of a woman!"
"Pfft." Gilbert shot back. "You're just afraid and jealous she might like me more than you!"
"Dream on, Beilschmidt. You're like the dirt on the ground compared to me. Just give it up. You'll never be anything more than a failure. How shameful! How do you call yourself 'awesome' when you can't even keep that lowly job of yours?"
"I would still be working if you didn't go crying to Ivan every time I came within five feet of your ugly face! Don't even fucking pretend to be the innocent victim!" Gilbert gritted, feeling the steaming heat of his anger. Clenching his fists so tight, they were turning white, he wanted more than anything just to shred that bastard into pieces. 'Okay. Control yourself and keep cool, Gilbert,' he told himself after coming back to his senses a bit. Closing his eyes he tried to calm and even his breathing down a bit.
"Oh really?" Roderich sneered. "Look at me, and look at you. Then you'll see how useless and pathetic you really are,"
Gilbert harshly bit his lip at that remark, to the point where he was starting to taste the first hints of blood in his mouth. It wasn't working, as his rage soared higher than ever.
"Let's see what we got here," Roderich continued to mock, proceeding with his tirade. "I have a successful career, while you are stuck living off your little brother's charity. I have many great talents and hobbies, while you just sit around on your lazy butt getting drunk all day. I have a well respected reputation, while not even a homeless bum would bat his eye at you. I have a lovely wom…"
Smack!
Roderich froze in mid sentence, toppling over and hitting the floor at full force - blood gushing out of various different parts of his face.
"Oh my god! Roddy! Are you alright?" Elizabeta quickly sprung up, running to her boyfriend's side.
Gilbert just stood there for a good moment, panting, with his fist still in the air before angrly marching off. His mind was ablaze with everything that just happened.
That phony four eyed wimp had beaten him once again. Gilbert shuddered, as the image of Roderich's laughing, smirking face flashed through his head. How he loathed that guy, always bragging and showing off the multitude of fortunes he would give anything to have…And that rotten asshole knew- and flaunted it at every opportunity.
Then there was Eliza. He too had screwed up and blown another great chance with her. That beautiful woman he had loved and lusted for the past seven years…she had rejected him once more. Was it really hopeless? Was she never going to like him back?
And next came the punch. He had hit Roderich hard, right on the nose, knocking him flat on his back. Gilbert didn't feel a single bit of remorse. In fact, he hoped he smacked that bragging bastard so well, it deranged his face into a disaster so horrid, no one would want to look at ever again. After all that crap he had to put up with, it was the least that sniveling jerk deserved. 'Oh yes, that would be the perfect payback, all right.' he thought, grinning to himself.
Feeling a bit of triumph over his accomplishment, Gilbert made his way back home…
.....
Ludwig was waiting for him, the moment he stepped inside.
"Gilbert. How many times have I had to ask you? This ridiculous, inappropriate behavior has to stop right now!"
"Yeesh. Chill out, West. Can't a guy have a little fun?"
"Fun my ass!" Ludwig screeched. "I just got a call from Roderich Edelstein a few minutes ago, saying you assaulted him earlier at the park,"
"So? What's the big deal? Serves that annoying crybaby right,"
"He's threatening to press charges, Gilbert! You have to start taking responsibility for your actions! I'm not going to stand behind you and cover for your dumb pitfalls every time!"
Gilbert shrugged. "Who asked you too, anyway? I could do without your edgy arse behind me everyday,"
"Perhaps it might be better that way," Ludwig began. "I can't tolerate your erratic actions anymore. I hope you understand that your childish mannerisms not only affect your image, but mine as well! If I get any more complaints about you…I'm afraid we can't live under the same roof anymore,"
"What?"
"Gilbert! I've had it with you! Learn to behave or find somewhere else to reside! This is your last warning!" Ludwig shouted, before slamming the door behind him and disappearing to another room.
Gilbert scowled. 'What a pleasant way to end this miserable day,' he thought bitterly. It was enough that he had that nasty spat with Roderich and Elizabeta, now he had the high possibility of being completely helpless, on the streets. Sighing mournfully, he wondered if his life could possibly get as wretched as this, wishing desperately for everything to be over…
As if some kind of strange phenomenon, just then, the calendar on the nearby wall slid off, crashing on the floor. Cautiously, Gilbert picked it up, examining it closely, feeling a rush of glee spread through his body.
Today was Friday…and in less than ten hours, it would be Saturday morning.
