[Fanfic] Out Of My League (Chapter Five)

Jul 11, 2011 19:56

Sorry for not updating for a few days. My RL is so messed up lately I don't have any inspiration to do some editing on this fic. This was written already but I edited a few parts but RL is hard, it took me some time to finish it and now I think it's a bit crappy. (If you tell me it's not, I'll be happy. LOL) Auuughhh! I wish RL romance is just like fanfics but I guess it's not and it sucks just like mine. Grrr. I don't understand guys and their lack of commitment sometimes. >_< Sucks, right? :(((

CHAPTER FIVE

Just like planned, Rina spent the whole day at home, marathon watching Hana Yori Dango in the comfort of her living room. She has watched the series many times before but this time is different. She finds herself squealing, grinning and swooning the whole time.

Too immersed in the television, she didn’t realize that it’s already eight the evening and her mobile phone is blinking constantly on the side table. Picking it up, she reads Jun’s name on the screen. Pausing the DVD, she answers the call.

“Moshi moshi?” She cheerfully says.

“Are you busy? Been calling you for fifteen minutes now.” She heard Jun on the other line.

“Sorry. I’m glued to the television and my mobile phone is on silent mode.” She bit her under lip.

“Oh, I see.” Jun says. “Anyways, I don’t think I can drop by tonight.” Rina frowned upon what he said.

“Why?” Rina asks with a disappointed tone.

“Sho-kun’s been acting weird lately and we decided to go out for a drink to get him to talk about it. Unless you want me to drop by after that.” She can hear him laughing softly on the other line.

“It’s fine, I’m sure you’re tired. Just have breakfast with me tomorrow.” Rina smiled.

“That’s perfect. I’ll be there first thing in the morning.”  Jun assured. “Are you going to cook for me?” He asks playfully. She might not see him but she swears she can imagine how he looks like at this very moment.

“I’m still not proud of my cooking skills but I’ll try.” Rina says uncertainly.

“How about making breakfast together?” Jun suggested.

“Sounds great.” Rina says.

“It’s a plan, then. I can’t wait for tomorrow.”  Jun softly says.

“I can’t wait either.” Rina replies.

After hanging up the phone, Rina receives a mail from Aki asking to accompany her in Sho’s apartment since the guys are having guys’ night out and she instantly replies back with a yes.

I guess we’re a having a night out of our own. She told herself as she turns off the television and DVD player and heads straight to her bathroom to take quick shower before going to see her older sister.

---

The next morning, Rina woke up earlier than usual. She was rummaging through the kitchen, thinking of what to cook for breakfast when someone came knocking on her door.

“Ohayou!” Jun cheerfully greets her as she opened the door.

“Ohayou!” Rina greets back and Jun slowly leans for a quick kiss which sends flutters through her stomach.

Jun noticed her flush face and he apologizes quickly with his sudden behavior. “Sorry.” He shyly says as he enters the house.

“Why are you saying sorry? For what?” Rina laughs.

“Am I going fast with you?” Jun asks, stopping in the middle of the living room. It was then when he noticed the entire place. It was not that big and overly decorated like how he imagined. It’s very minimalist and modern. The whole living room is painted white with wooden floors, the red couch and the vibrant carpet adds color to the whole place. On his right was staircase leading to a mezzanine bedroom and beside the stairs was the entry to the kitchen.

“No.” he barely heard her since he’s too busy looking around the place. “There’s something wrong with my apartment?” she asked.

“Nothing at all.” Jun says, getting his attention back to her. “Shall we start?” he smiled at her.

Rina nodded and leads him to the kitchen, “I don’t have anything besides bread, jams, yogurt and milk for breakfast.” She says, getting a bit embarrassed. “I usually don’t eat breakfast you know.”

“No problem. Let’s just cook eggs and bacons and we’ll have a very American breakfast now.” Jun uplifts her.

“I don’t think I have bacon.” Rina frowns while searching in the fridge.

“This one’s fine.” Jun grabs a spam in the cupboard.

“Okay.” Rina sighed as she hands him a can opener.

“What’s wrong?” Jun asks, noticing how she suddenly gazes off.

“I’m pretty undomesticated, am I?” Rina pouts as she leans on the kitchen counter.

“That makes it cute in my eyes.” Jun smiled, trying to make her feel better but she just feint a smile. “Come on, help me with this one.” He took her hand and gave her the knife to cut the spam into thin slices while he gets some eggs from the fridge.

“Is it a bit early for you?” Jun asks, putting the frying pan in the stove. “I’m sorry if you woke up really early for me, I have a schedule at 9am today.”

“It’s fine. I barely slept well last night anyways.” Rina snorted.

“Why?” Jun asks worriedly.

“Nee-chan and Sho-kun’s problems are bugging me. I’m worried at how their talk last night turns out.”

“I think it went well.” Jun says and Rina stops to look at him. “Sho-kun sent us a mail saying that they were able to talk already and everything seems to be doing well.”

“I wonder why my sister didn’t inform me anything.” Rina creases her eyebrows.

“I’m sure she’ll tell you within the day.” Jun says reassuringly. “Last night, I kinda got mad at him for acting that way to your sister.”

“Why?” Rina laughs. “I kinda got mad at her too for acting that way to Sho-kun.” She says and both of them laughed. “But I guess I know where both of them are coming from.”

Jun nodded, “Riida made an amazing speech last night which leads Sho-kun to come to his senses. At least now everything is good between him and Aki, thanks to Riidaa.”

“Whoa, as a fan I want to see Ohno-san’s speech last night.” Rina wondered.

“I tell you, it’s pretty shocking to hear that from him.” Jun laughs.

“Can I ask you something?” Rina asks and Jun nods his head. “Did you tell them about... us?”

“No.” Jun shakes his head. “I figured that it’s best if I ask first if you want me to tell them, right?” Rina nods in agreement.

“It’s okay to tell them but spare Sho-kun. He’ll be so excited he’ll spill it to my sister.” Rina laughs.

“You don’t want her to know?” Jun asks.

“I hope you don’t mind but for your own good, it’s better to keep it a secret from my family first. My backing out from the wedding is still fresh and it’s going to be big frenzy if everyone from the social circle finds out that I’m dating you.” Rina explains.

“It’s fine with me.” Jun says but Rina noticed the sudden change in his face.

“The gossips and rumors circulating in the social circle are even worse than those tabloids, you know.” Rina says. “When my sister left, the issue didn’t die down for almost two years and now their target is me. They were speculating that I’m dating some guy my father doesn’t approve of that’s why I backed out from the wedding. It’s really absurd and messy.”

“What would their reaction be if they found out you’re dating me?” Jun can’t help but ask.

“I don’t know.” Rina shrugs her shoulders. “I don’t care about what they would say anyways. They are just small-minded people who gossip about other people’s lives as pastimes. They are not to be taken seriously but of course, precaution is needed.”

“How about your parents? How would they react?” Jun softly asks.

“Let’s not think about that for now, okay?” Rina forces a smile. She doesn’t want the truth to hurt his pride.

“It’s going to be hard for me, isn’t it?” Jun says, looking down on the wooden floor.

“I’m not going to give up on you no matter how hard it may be and I hope you are too.” Rina firmly says as she took his hands on hers. “This is my much awaited fairytale and no evil witches will take that away from me.” she smiled and it manages to shakes off the worries in his system.

“Okay, my princess, I promise to give you the best happily ever after there is.” Jun smiled cheekily and pulls Rina closer to him.

“Way to go, my prince.” Rina answers as Jun pinches her nose and kisses it after.

---

Two and a half hours passed by and Jun have to go to his scheduled work for the day. As he walks out of the elevator he was surprised to see a familiar face.

“Matsumoto Jun? What are doing here?” Nakagawa Aki, Sho’s girlfriend and Rina’s elder sister asks him with a confused look on her face.

“Ahhhh. Aki...” Jun doesn’t know what to say.

“From what I can remember, you live in the building across this, right? Unless I’m too drunk when I first I came to your apartment.” Aki wonders as she flicks her fingers in her cheeks. “But I’m not drunk that night, Jun-kun.”

“Ano...” Jun can’t believe he can be this dumbstruck in front of Aki.

“Do you know my sister lives in the fourteenth floor of this building?” Aki says in a matter-of-fact way.

“Rina-san does? Maji  desu ka?” Jun tries to sound innocent but he doesn’t know that Aki didn’t buy that.

“Yeah, I’m coming up to meet her.” Aki says, hiding a smile.

“I just dropped by a friend’s house for breakfast, I’m on my way to work now.” Jun tries to say coolly.

“Oooh, too bad. I’m going to ask you to come with me and meet Rina.” Aki pursed her lips.

“Ah, maybe some other time, Aki. I’m running late already.” Jun smiles.

“Oh sure, Jun-kun. I’ll see you soon.” Aki smiled back.

---

After escaping Aki’s prying eyes, Jun got into his car and pulled out his mobile phone to send a mail to Rina.

To: Nakagawa Rina
I bumped into Aki in the lobby.
I was so tense! I hope she didn’t notice.

Once the mail was sent, he pressed on the accelerator and went off the driveway. Her reply took long and he receives it as he arrived at the location of Arashi’s new CM.

From: Nakagawa Rina
As expected of Detective Aki. >_<
She’s suspecting something.
That sister of mine is very good in sensing the atmosphere.
I’m taking care of it, don’t worry.  :)

Jun laughs after reading the mail, he was about to reply when Sho came and wraps his arms around his shoulders.

“Ohayou, Matsujun!” Sho says in a sing-song tone.

“Talk about being overly happy, Sho-san.” Jun teasingly says while slipping his mobile phone in his pocket.

“Happy is overrated, I’m beyond that.” Sho proudly states.

“Woah. Good for you.” Jun says, taping his back.

“How about you?” Sho says cheekily.

“Huh?” Jun crosses his eyebrows.

Sho laughs and picks up his mobile phone to show to Jun.

From: Aki
There’s someone going on
with my sister and Jun-kun.
Those sneaky kiddos!

Jun’s blood suddenly gushes up to his head.

“Aki can get very hyper sometimes with this kind of matter.” Sho says calmly. “But is her suspicion true?”

“No it’s not.” Jun says defensively while overly shaking his head.

“Oh, if you say so.” There he goes again with his song-song tone which slightly makes Jun uneasy.
