I can't believe that I turned out to be such a bad smut writer that I decided to scrape off my initial plan to have a graphical ecchi scene. My last work (remember
A Beautiful Mess Chapter 18 *winks*) exceeded my expectation but this one drained my brain. :(( But I gave my all in this and I hope you will like it somehow. Yoroshiku! :)

Chapter Eleven: Realization
In the weekend before Valentine’s Day, Sophie rented a car and brought Sho to the countryside. Two hour drive away from the busy metropolitan is the Loire Valley, also known as the ‘Garden of France’ due to the abundance of vineyards, fields and fruit orchards. It is also known for its historical towns and architecture. A great place to go to for the people who want to relax and escape the hectic and stressful city.
When they arrived in the serene countryside, they visited the famous Chateaux in the region, used to be home of the lords and the house of the French nobility but in recent time, some are now used by locals as a guesthouse for tourists. They also walk through the extensive vineyards, taste wine straight from their oak barrels and most of all, they would never forget to taste the local cuisine. Sophie isn’t really the foodie type but after she met Sho, he influences her with his appreciation for good food.
When the night falls, they called it a day and drive to a small bed and breakfast that Sophie reserved days ago to rest and sleep. They are welcomed by a very friendly and accommodating elderly French couple who runs the place. Unfortunately for Sho, he can’t understand a word they are saying so he just smiled and nods at them every time their eyes met his.
“What did they told you a while ago?” Sho asked after Sophie joins him on the open terrace of their room. “The owners of this place…” He was curious especially after they looked at him all smiles and meaningfully.
She hands him a glass of complimentary wine that the elderly couple gave them as service. “They asked if we are couple and I said yes.” She sips on her glass with a small smile. “They thought we are on honeymoon…” She added softly. There’s a small hint of happiness on Sho’s face after she said that.
Sho eyed her meaningfully. "What did you say?" There's a playful tone in his voice.
"Of course I wouldn't lie to them!" She replied tauntingly before they both erupted in silly laughter.
“Thanks for bringing me here. It’s a really nice place, I had so much fun in our adventure today.” Sho pulled her in and wrapped an arm around her waist as they admire the wide garden in front of them.
“Yeah, after all the wine you consumed today, I wonder why you still have this energy.” Sophie commented.
“I’d rather make more memories with you here than to get some sleep.” Sho whispered, gently kissing the side of her head. “We’ll be going back to Paris tomorrow night… You’ll face all your books again.”
Sophie looked up to him. “I’m sorry…” The end of the semester is nearing and she is spending more time in the university library to study for their upcoming final exams.
“I understand.” Sho reassured her as he hugs her from the back. “It’s not easy being a graduating student… By the time you graduate, I’ll be the proudest boyfriend there is.”
Sophie smiled faintly, holding on to his hand on her stomach. “I should get ready to sleep. All the wine made me really dizzy right now.” She turns around to face him.
“Okay.” Sho placed both hands on her cheeks and reached in for a kiss on her lips.
When Sophie came out of the bathroom, Sho is already laying on the bed with his eyes closed.
“You should at least change your clothes before sleeping, Sakurai Sho.” She playfully slaps his leg and he quickly opens his eyes and softly laughs. He grabs her hand and pulled her towards him and she landed on top of him.
“Not after I do this.” Sho said before placing his lips on hers. It was long and gentle but full of passion.
“Look at what the alcohol did to you.” Sophie mumbles as she separates from him to breath. He just smirked and started kissing her again, his hands going inside her shirt, gently caressing her back.
“I want you… right now.” He pleads huskily, drowning her in his eyes as he intensely stares straight into hers. How can she say no to those intense pair of eyes?
Sophie felt her heart thumping crazily in nervousness. Sho never once hinted that he wanted to do this and she was glad that he never brought it up because in all honestly, she doesn’t have any experience on this. Her relationship with Sho is probably the most serious she had in her twenty one years of living. Her life have always been about family and studying so she doesn’t have the time to go out and seriously date guys even after living on her own at eighteen years old.
Sho slowly lowered his lips down to her neck and she willingly let him. He was about to remove her shirt but she abruptly stop him.
“This is going to be my first time.” She shyly admitted and Sho nodded understandingly.
“I’ll take care of you. Don’t worry.” He assured her, gently stroking her cheeks.
He took her by the waist and started kissing her gently on the lips, turning her body down the bed as he laid on top her. As their bodies slowly collide with each other, she can feel his bulge tightening around her crotch.
She lets him take the lead, slowly removing her clothes as she does the same to him. “I trust you, Sho.” She murmured, her voice is shaking in fear.
He nodded. “Like I said, I will take care of you. Always.” Their lips met again, the hunger and the longing are heightened with every second.
And tonight, in this very moment, she lets him. All of her, only for him.
----------
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Sho asked. They are hugging each other on the bed with nothing but the blanket covering their body.
“I told you.” Sophie replied accusingly before laughing.
“I mean, why didn’t you tell me before?” He clarified at once.
“I figured that there’s no need to.” Sophie answered, wrapping her arm around his abdomen as she felt the warmth of his body. “I didn’t think you’d ever do it. We’ve been sleeping in the same bed for over a week and you never once tried to make a move.”
He suddenly felt bad with that statement of hers. “Did I disappoint you?”
“No.” She answered right away. “I don’t regret what we did tonight. If were to give myself to someone, I will choose you, no one else.”
“I’m sorry.” He mumbled, planting a soft kiss on the top of her head.
“Don’t be.” She pats his chest. “I trust you and I love you, remember that.”
Sophie looked up to him and gave him a reassuring smile.
“I love you too.” He smiled back before sharing a gentle and passionate kiss.
----------
The next day, they woke up late around lunch time. They ate a very nice home cooked meal made by the female owner on the garden. They spent the whole Sunday afternoon on the beautiful courtyard, basically talking about anything under the sun.
“What are your plans after graduation?” Sho asked, changing the topic to Sophie. “Are you planning on coming home?”
Sophie smiled softly. “Since I was young, it is my dream to be a lawyer. Some kids wanted to be a doctor or a teacher or an actress but I always wanted to be lawyer and it never changed since then.”
“Why?” Sho asked curiously.
“My mother always reminded me that when I grow up, I should help the people in need. She said that I was lucky to be born to a well-off family and some kids are not as lucky as I am, so I should share what I have, in any means possible. I guess that never got out of my mind… A lot of innocent people are victimized by injustice in our country. Just because they are a commoner and they are up against people who have power. I want to change that. I want to help by giving justice to innocent people.”
Sho loved seeing this side of Sophie, the intelligent, humane and socially responsible side of her. It may be a long way to go but he thinks she’ll do a great job being a lawyer.
“You’re going to law school then?”
“That’s the plan.” She smiled. “Don’t you wanna go to law school? You have a pre-law degree and isn’t your father a registered lawyer?”
Sho shakes his head and laughs. “I’m too old for law school.”
“There’s no such thing as too old for law school. Everybody has a fair chance as long as they’re breathing. And I think you’ll be a great lawyer.” She winks playfully.
“But not as good as you.” He smiled. “Where are you applying for law school then?” He asked, wishing that it’s a university in Tokyo so that they’ll finally be living in the same country.
Sophie looked at him with a small smile first before answering. “I’m applying in a university in America.” Sho’s face fall down and he can’t hide his disappointment. “The program is really great and they are impressed with my GPA that they’re offering me a full scholarship.” She tried to sound cheerful but Sho remained quiet. “My parents are really happy when I told them that news last year. They wanted me to grab the chance. Not everyone can get that scholarship from an Ivy League institution.”
He forced a smile. The truth is, he is very much happy for her, with a girl that have such intelligence as Sophie, she deserve every bit of that opportunity, maybe even more but he can’t hide the fact that they will remain miles apart for next four or five years.
“So you’re going to America after graduation?” Sho asked. “Aren’t you going to visit your family before the school semester starts? If I’m not wrong, it starts in September in America, right? You still have four months after you graduated here… And maybe you want to visit me in Tokyo.” He smiled shyly.
She smiled but something in that smile says that he’s not gonna like what she’s about to say. “I kinda have something to do after graduation.” She sounded hesitant to continue. “Last year during semester break, I got accepted in a non-governmental global organization for internship, basically what I did for two months is to do humanitarian work here in France. And then I learned of this volunteer program they have. What this program does is to send eligible individuals to depressed areas around the world to do volunteer work. Not everyone can get into the program though. They have to pass a written exam and go through a series of interviews, just to see if they are emotionally ready for the job because to tell you honestly, it was not that easy. You’ll deal with the less fortunate, eat the food they eat and sleep in a cramped place and most of all, you don’t have a salary for this, just an allowance of ten US dollars weekly.”
“Ten dollars a week? That’s insane!” Sho is shocked.
“Well, they are sent to poor countries where ten US dollars is like a luxury for the local people… You have to live like them, have the same lifestyle as the people, experience what their life is, that’s what this program is all about.”
“And you applied for that?” It wouldn’t be a surprise for him if she does.
Sophie nodded. “I got accepted and they are sending me right away after I graduated. I still don’t know where they would send me. Normally they would tell you a few days before the flight.”
“But what if you don’t like the place they’re sending you?”
“I don’t have the right to demand, we were told that beforehand and the reason I passed the program is because they saw in me the willingness to do the job regardless of the place or the salary.”
Sho looked worried as he took her hand in his. “But what if you got sick? You’re going to be sent to some third world country, you might catch an illness there… Do you have your parents’ permission for this?”
“I got an okay from my parents so don’t worry.” She pats his cheeks. “The organization ensures our safety before sending us there. They give us immunization shots and all that.”
Sho is still not impressed. “Why are you doing this?”
She laughs. “I told you want to help people.”
“You’re helping them too much.”
“There’s no such thing as ‘too much’ in helping others. There’s no limit in giving a helping hand to people in need… My family has been doing these charitable deeds since I was young, my parents and my grandparents, all of them. It’s now my turn.”
“You make it sound like it’s your family’s job to help the poor and in need.” Sho puts in.
It actually is. She said to herself.
“I was hoping we could spend time together before you go to law school.” Sho said, disappointed that it’s not going to be true.
“We are spending time together now. Isn’t this enough?” Sophie clung to his arm and rested her head on his shoulder.
“It’s never going to be enough as long as we live in two different countries…” Sho mumbles quietly. "I wish I could just spend time with you everyday..."
Sophie smiled. She wishes for that too but she knows that this time, it's not going to be possible. She didn't forget that letter she wrote for Jun and she stand by her decision to send Sho back to them.
“You know what, before I met you, I practically plan the next six years of my life… and that is to do volunteer work, go to law school and top the bar exam. I even promised my parents that I will not get a boyfriend yet to focus on my studies.” She smiled but the tears are threatening in her eyes. “More than my parents’ dream it is my only dream. When I was young, I am looking forward to the day I set foot in university to start my dream. Now, I am halfway through it, there’s no way I am letting this go… In six years my dream isn’t just a dream anymore. It’s going to be real.”
Sho tried to force a smile but this realization is breaking his poor heart into little pieces.
“Then go for it.” He tried to fight the tears, there’s no way he’s going to cry in front of her. “You’re the most intelligent person I know and more than being intelligent, you’re also very kind and humble. You know your responsibilities, you fight for what you think is right, you help without expecting anything return and most importantly, you have the heart to serve the people in need. I admire your willingness, Sophie and I will always going to be proud of you.”
Sophie smiled appreciatively. “Thank you.” She whispered, squeezing his hand on hers.
He nodded. “We should get ready now. We are going back to Paris in a few hours, right?” He changed the topic, if this is going to continue, his heart will be shattered into tiny pieces even more. “I’ll take the shower first?” He asked and she nodded. He kissed her lightly on the forehead before walking back inside, leaving Sophie sitting in the garden with a heavy heart.
----------
Sho locked himself inside the bathroom, turned the shower on and sat on the toilet seat. That’s when the tears fell from his eyes. He didn’t realize how selfish he was until now. He may be ready for a life with her but she is not. Sophie is still young, she has a lot of dreams she like to achieve and he can’t believe that he almost took it all away from her.
He was about to give up everything for her because he figured at this point of his life, he should find a girl and start settling down. Sophie has all the qualities he’s been looking for but it didn’t occur to him that Sophie still has a life of her own. She still need to accomplish a lot of things and with such determination, it may took years before she start thinking of settling down with man. Sophie can’t give up her life just for him, that would be very selfish in his part.
It is also in his selfishness that he forgot that he has four friends that needed him. Four friends that’s been with him since he’s seventeen years old, the friends that shared the same dream as his, that without this friends, he wouldn’t get to where he is now, he would attain this certain success. He can’t believe that he’s doing this to them, he’s actually turning his back on them for his selfish wishes.
Sho picked up his mobile phone from his pocket and pressed the third number on his speed dial. A man answered on the fourth ring.
“Kuro-pi.” Sho greeted the person on the other line, making sure that there’s no hint that’s he just cried from sound of his voice. “I am coming back home.”
