This debt ceiling debate phenomenon is a really amazing piece of political spect one that reveals the deep disconnect, ignorance and even lack of critical thinking skills in the public at large.
Consider, on the one hand,
the words of Martin Wolf, chief economics editor at the Financial Times, no financial slouch him, "These are dangerous times. The US may be on the verge of making among the biggest and least-necessary financial mistakes in world history. ..."
And what does
John Q. Public in the US think as the US slides toward economic apocalypse? It seems, astonishingly, that only 22% (!!!) of Americans would vote in favour of raising the debt ceiling. 22%, less than 1 in 4, would vote to raise the debt ceiling and thereby allow the US to fulfill the financial obligations the Congress imposed in the budget it supported and avoid default!
