Suicide: An Academic Poll

Sep 20, 2013 13:54

Because my Psych professor is such a ray of sunshine, he decided to assign us a cheerful topic for a weekend mini-research essay: "What are people's thoughts on suicide?"

Yeah... thanks, professor.

He didn't give us any guidance other than that question, and he's leaving it up to us how we wish to pursue this topic. We could go to our friends and family and ask their thoughts, we could look up blogs and essays online, we could research academic journals on the subject... you get the idea. Naturally, I went to the trusty LJ poll.

I recognize that this is a very heavy topic, but I'd appreciate as many participants in this poll as are willing. The results will be compiled in my paper. I will NOT reveal personal or identifying information to anybody. This is a purely academic use.

PLEASE:
- Participate even if you have no first-hand exposure to issues and behaviors of suicide.
- Link friends to this, if you're willing. The more data I get, the better.
- Put your honest thoughts, even if you feel that your thoughts aren't popular or "politically correct." (As I said, I'm not sharing details with anyone.)
- IF you are willing, feel free to post more details in the comments. This is absolutely optional.
- If you would like to provide more thoughts or information, but you don't want anyone else to see, feel free to send me a private message.
- Answer as many questions as you are comfortable answering.

Thank you to all who participate.
