Budgeting like a Boss.

So... my Trophy Wife and I need to save money. I'm dropping down to part-time while I go to school. School starts on Monday. We're making a list of things that we'll be doing to save money, and I'm going to post them here so that I'm absolutely obligated to follow the list. (Accountability, right ( Read more... )

Let's see...

I've been shopping at Asian grocery stores for quite a while now. I get all of my staple starches (noodles, rice, etc.) there, and often a lot of produce (but I'm using my garden for produce right now). They're awesome places to shop.

I already buy only cheap cuts of meat, and I use my slow-cooker a lot.

My bread goes in the fridge. If it goes stale, it gets turned into breadcrumbs for cooking.

I'm considering tutoring this semester. We'll see. I'm sure I can get lots of business at this school. I actually tutor much more in math and science than in writing, but I suppose I could tutor writing, too. I never considered grading tests, but I'll look into it.

Riding a bike isn't an option for me. Everything is too far away, I commute at night (dangerous), and... yeah. It's not a safe city for biking unless you stay in mid-town.

Not planning to buy any shoes or clothes at the moment. Can't imagine anything I might need. I bought some clothes for my new job back in March when I started the sales position, and I felt so wasteful, even though I bought pretty much everything on clearance.

I never use paper plates or cups unless I have a LARGE party, and even then, I often just use our own plates anyway.

I don't have a gym membership anymore. I exercise by running outside, and I got a TRX suspension weight training system.

Already getting my meds by 90-day mail order. And... this is bad... but I cut out some of my meds because of the cost.

I'm locked into a cell phone plan, but I want to change it. We'll see what happens.

So... yeah, I'm already pretty frugal. That's why it's so hard to cut down when I'm already someone who isn't wasteful.
