Sometimes, there are unexpected benefits from things. Obviously, I don't need my contact lenses or glasses anymore. I have over a year's supply of them left. Although it was unlikely that anyone I know would have my prescription, I posted it to my FB to see if anyone I knew could use them.
My sister just got laid off through no fault of her own - the owner of her company committed Medicare fraud and got caught, and a bunch of scientists who had nothing to do with the scam ended up getting axed. They told her on the last day of the month, and she lost her insurance with no warning. She's on her last pair of contacts, and has been wearing this two-month pair for six months now (because money was tight anyway). Her glasses are so old that the prescription isn't good enough anymore.
I'd completely forgotten that the last time I was back home visiting, she kept using my glasses because she could see better with them. At this point, she and I have pretty much the exact same prescription. Funny how genetics work, right?
I sent my contact lenses to her yesterday, along with my glasses. More people being helped already!
