Good chapter. Kirk gets what he wanted, he'll be on the same ship as Bones, waiting for the next chapter :)

Kirk usually gets what he wants... even when he doesn't know he wants it. Or when he doesn't, he gets experience. Because experience is what you get when you don't get what you want. *wink*

Next chapter is up!

lol - I think it was good you forgot the summary - this way it was a surprise that they end up at the same ship!

Interesting to see Jim's leadership and reaction to the instructor's comments.

I suppose it's not so bad. But at the same time, not too many people will just start reading a fic with no summary at all. I'm grateful that some people gave it a chance anyway! And yeah, having it be a surprise might be nice, too. Glad you're enjoying it. And the next chapter is up!

Damn, you write good action! And the discussion/debriefing was intense. Do I sense foreshadowing regarding Jim's thoughts about his father and all of that? Sure, he tactically knows his father made the right decision, but does he understand? Will he have to face it? Gah! And now he'll be with Bones on the Athena...that's just...

I can't wait for the next chapter. Feel free to post them quicker - you know, if you want to. ;-)

I love writing action. Seriously love it. I actually based a lot of that training mission on a training mission I was on as a cadet. I'm glad you liked the action part!

And yes... Jim's thoughts about his father... the difference between knowing something in your head and knowing it in your heart... Jim's got some issues to work out there.

Anyway, the next chapter is up! I'll post them as quickly as I can. I'm seriously INSANELY busy this semester, and I'll try to post chapters on nights when I'm not up to my eyeballs in homework or class. Tuesdays and Thursdays, I don't even have time to check my e-mail unless I'm really lucky. Even then, I probably won't have time to reply.

I like digging into Jim's emotions. There's so much damage in there, and he's still untangling his own issues. This just happens to be an issue he's never been able to untangle or understand. See, the whole Academy Series is character development. This is the story of how Jim Kirk goes from being the "genius-level repeat offender" sitting in a bar in Riverside, IA with dried blood on his face, to the man that Captain Pike would make First Officer of the flagship of the Federation during a crisis without hesitation. That's the story I'm telling. So this is the final big piece of the puzzle. :D

Next chapter is up!

More great detail. I like the route you've taken with Jim's feelings about his father. And I love that Jim is surprising Bones with a summer together.

Yeah, I wanted to take a slightly different interpretation on Jim's feelings about his father. I kept thinking back to the part where Pike says that Jim's father didn't believe in no-win scenarios, and Jim says (very tellingly), "Sure learned his lesson." Those four words seem like a throwaway line, but if you think about what Jim just said there... yeah. Intense stuff. So I wanted to explore that. :D

Anyway, I know you read in smaller pieces, but chapter 3 is up!
