~

I heard that you're settled down
That you found a girl and you're married now
I heard that your dreams came true
Guess she gave you things I didn't give to you

There was no doubt about it. It was the talk of the town. Headlining newspapers, magazines, even the showbiz corners in the News.

The Jimusho was in a total state of panic and Johnny himself was very well frustrated about it.

“AKANISHI JIN MARRIES KUROKI MEISA”

But Kame knew nothing about this. He found it out from the newspaper that was delivered daily to his house.

And it tore him apart.

Why didn’t Jin tell him first? They were best friends after all. They are, aren’t they?

Kame shook his head. “I have to think about this some other time.“ he told himself as he readied himself for the Panasonic event.

As he had thought, there was no avoiding the topic about Jin. At the said event, he was asked what he thought about it.

If Jin had told him first before making the decision.

If they had seen each other for the past few months.

And if he could kindly send them his warm congratulations.

All he could do was put on a poker face and walk out of the room.

Old friend, why are you so shy?
Ain't like you to hold back or hide from the light

4 in the morning, and Kame’s phone was ringing like mad. He would have been mad if someone woke him up at this ungodly hour, but the fact that he hasn’t fallen asleep yet left him no choice but to pick his phone up.

He wasn’t sure if he was dreaming or if his brain was playing tricks on him.

Jin was calling him.

He knew this scene far too well. They’ve done this before.

Jin calling him at ungodly hours because he needed someone to talk to, and that person was always Kame.

“Jin?” Kame spoke first, his voice shaky.

“Kazu, i- I’m sorry.” Jin said through the other line.

“Baka. What are you apologizing for?” Kame laughed. At least he tried to, and he succeeded, a bit.

Jin snorted at that reply. He knew far too well that Kame was sad, frustrated, mad and just plain broken because of what he did. This little turtle still loves to play the strong one.

For a few minutes, both of them were silent. They just listened to each others breathing. . . just like the old days.

Kame was the one to break the silence.

“Congratulations, by the way. I never got to congratulate you ever since finding out about it. Or talk to you for that matter.” Kame tried to sound sympathetic and happy.

Jin was still silent. He couldn’t think of anything to say back, so he just kept his mouth shut.

“Jin, you need to sleep. The conference is tomorrow, and you should look your best. You wouldn’t want Mei-chan to worry about you, right?” and there it was. The dreaded tear that rolled down his cheek. Kame swiftly wiped it away and stood up.

“Kazu. . .” the apologetic tone evident in Jin’s voice.

“no more excuses. You need the rest. You have a busy day tomorrow, and a big week ahead. Good night Jin.”

Kame was the one to hang-up. He peeked outside his window that was overlooking the park just in time to see a hooded figure walk away.

His phone vibrated in his hand. A message from Jin.

“ I hope you would come and attend the wedding. Good Night, Kazu. “

-

The press conference was broadcasted in every single TV station in Japan, and the area was full of reporters and fans alike.

Akanishi Jin and Kuroki Meisa officially announcing their marriage in-front of the entire nation, and that they would have a church wedding to celebrate this.

The happy couple answered every question and received every gift from everyone with bright smiles on their faces. Never has anyone seen Jin smile this way before.

I hate to turn up out of the blue, uninvited
But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it
I had hoped you'd see my face and that you'd be reminded
That for me, it isn't over

The wedding was grand. Exotic flowers decorated the chapel. The guest list was limited to their family and friends.

A few minutes before everything started, guests have already started filling-up the seats in the chapel.

The groom was still in his room though. He has never felt this anxious in his life, not even during concerts and live performances.

A knock on his door startled him out of his thoughts.

“Come in.”

And he regretted those words as soon as the door opened.

Jin looked, wide-eyed, at the person standing in-front of him. He never expected Kame to actually come.

“What the hell are you doing? It’s time! Do you plan on missing your own wedding?” Kame grabbed Jin by the wrist and attempted to pull him out of the door, when he was pulled the other way, and came crashing into Jin’s chest.

The hug took Kame by surprise.

“Jin -“

“I won’t get to hug you like this after the wedding, you know.” Jin said matter-of-factly. “It’s not gonna feel the same way once I’m married. I’m sorry for not telling you anything at all, Kame. I know you must feel so mad at me for doing that but, please forgive me.”

Kame had to bite his lips so that he wouldn’t breakdown in-front of Jin.

“Everything’s fine Jin. I understand how you feel.” Kame broke out of Jin’s arms.

“Look, Kame, those times before-“

“It would be best not to bring those up. Past is past, remember?” Kame smiled and gave Jin a playful punch. He was smiling as he said those words, but he doubted his voice played the part.

“So, come on. You’re gonna be seriously late for your own wedding if you don’t move now.” Kame attempted to pull Jin out of the room again.

“But Kame. . .” Jin looked sick.

“Don’t tell me you’re scared of doing this ? ! You perform in-front of thousands of people confidently, but for this you - ? ! Tch, Bakanishi.” Kame laughed and this time, smiled naturally.

Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you, too
Don't forget me, I begged, I remember you said
Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead
Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead

Standing in-front of the chapel doors, has got to be the most painful thing Kame has ever done. He looked at Jin, who was busy fiddling with his tie, then his hair, then back to his tie again. It was obvious that Jin was very anxious about this. It made Kame smile.

Then the music started playing, and they heard all the guests stand up in unison. Jin snapped his head up and looked at Kame, panic in his eyes.

“You’re gonna do fine. Trust me.” Kame gave Jin’s shoulders a tight squeeze.

“Jin?”

“Yep ?”

“After you walk down this aisle, don’t forget that I’ll always be here for you, alright?”

Jin looked Kame in the eyes, and what he saw in-front of him was not the Kamenashi Kazuya the fans saw, but the Kamenashi Kazuya he has known his entire life.

The timid, shy and very fragile, Kamenashi Kazuya.

He gave Kame a reassuring hug. “I will never forget you, Kame. Not in this lifetime.” He whispered in Kame’s ear.

The chapel doors opened. Kame walked slowly behind Jin, along with Yamapi and Reio.

It felt weird, watching Jin slowly reach the altar. It felt like the aisle was longer than it actually looked. Kame stood beside Jin, and together, they waited for the bride to appear.

When Meisa appeared in her ridiculously beautiful white dress, Kame noticed how Jin’s breathing went uneven, and how his smile was brighter than the sun.

‘Meisa is beautiful.’ Kame thought to himself. ‘Jin definitely deserves someone like her.’

You know how the time flies
Only yesterday was the time of our lives
We were born and raised in a summer haze
Bound by the surprise of our glory days

The ceremony was over, and Kame found himself clapping and cheering as the couple made their way down the aisle once more with wide, bright smiles plastered on their faces.

The reception was as grand as the wedding. Extravagant food was served to the guests. The cake was beautiful. The tables were set properly. It was simply, perfect.

Koyama and Nakamaru, being the special hosts of the party, announced that the groom’s closest friends, have prepared a little present for him.

“If everyone would please look at the TV screen, the presentation is about to start.” Nakamaru spoke through the microphone.

The lights were dimmed, as the video started playing. It was full of Jin’s pictures. From childhood, up to now.

Kame’s eyes were glued on the screen. He knew those photos a little too well. Most of them were photos that he himself took, and most of them were taken when they were together.

Their trip to Okinawa, adopting Ran-chan, sleepovers, backstage during KAT-TUN concerts, everything. Everything that popped out of the screen were memories that Kame kept dear to him.

He couldn’t help but tear up a little, remembering the times he and Jin and so much fun together, and how Jin was the one who helped him crawl out of his shell and face the world.

And how he fell for Jin, unconditionally.

Jin was always there for him, and now Jin belongs to someone else.

He should be happy for Jin. He knew how Jin had always wanted a family and how much he wanted to get married.

He knew Jin, like nobody else does.

Kame snapped his head up when he heard the guests laughing. Jin was sobbing. No, he was crying.

Akanishi Jin actually cried because of a video.

Kame couldn’t help but laugh as well.

Nothing compares, no worries or cares
Regrets and mistakes, they're memories made
Who would have known how bittersweet this would taste?

The bride and groom took the center stage and started dancing. It was a beautiful sight.

Meisa fits inside Jin’s arms perfectly.

It would seem as though they were really made for each other.

Kame contemplated with himself. Part of him wanted to leave, but part of him still wanted to see Jin be the happiest person alive.

~

He drank too much. He drank too much and now Jin had to take him home.

“Kame, can you walk?” Jin asked worriedly.

“What are you talking about? Of course I can! I have feet, you see?” Kame wiggled his feet in front of Jin, and Jin could only laugh at his drunk best friend.

He knew too well that Kame turns into a little kid when he’s drunk, and there’s no taming that mouth of his.

“Alright, I’ll just carry you home. You obviously had too much tonight.”

“I want a piggy-back ride, pretty please!” Kame whined on his seat and looked at Jin through hazy eyes.

Jin sighed, and crouched down for Kame to get on his back.

Kame kept on talking on the way home. He talked about how ran-chan has been, how KAT-TUN was doing, how he missed Jin so much. . .

“Ne, Jin?”

“Hmm?”

“Are you gonna leave us again?” Kame asked.

Jin laughed. “What do you mean?”

Jin was well unaware of the tears running down Kame’s cheeks.

“I just have this feeling that you’re going away again.”

“You’re thinking way too much, Kazu. Get some rest, we’re just a few blocks away now.”

“ok.”

A few minutes later, Kame spoke again.

“Jin?”

“yup”

“I miss you~”

Jin had to laugh at that. They were together almost everyday! How could Kame not get annoyed at that?

“Jin?”

“What?”

Kame giggled. “I love you.”

~

“Kame, let’s dance.” Ueda whispered in his ear, knocking him out of his thoughts for the nth time today.

“e-eh?” Kame looked at Ueda, complete disbelief in his eyes.

“Tch. Just follow me.”

And with that, Ueda waltz to where the newly-married couple were dancing, and swiftly took Jin away from Meisa.

Soon enough, Junno took over Ueda, then Nakamaru, then Koki.

Everyone enjoyed the little performance KAT-TUN made, even the bride herself.

“Kame-chan, you should join too!” a blooming Meisa told him.

“No thanks. They’re pretty much enjoying themselves, watching them be complete idiots is fine with me.” Kame answered, but was ignored as Meisa pulled him off his seat and was pushed to the dance floor.

“Kame-chan! It’s your turn!” a laughing Koki announced from across the floor. A quick turn and Jin was in-front of him. Just as the instrumental version of their song, I’ll Be With You, played.

Jin held out his right hand and Kame regretfully took it, knowing it’ll only hurt when it would be time to let go. But, being able to be with Jin under the circumstances, made all the pain he felt worthwhile.

Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you
Don't forget me, I begged, I remember you said
Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead

As soon as the song ended, they stopped dancing. Everyone was clapping and enjoying the show.

Kame backed away first and looked Jin in the eyes.

“Keep your promise.” Kame said in a firm voice.

Jin smiled at him. “Of course I will. And, I want to ask for something in return. When I call you at dawn, you wouldn’t get mad and will come down right away.”

“Fine with me” Kame gave Jin a smug look.

“Congratulations Jin. Treat her well, got it?”

“Got it”

“Don’t forget me, alright?”

“Never”

“Promise?”

Jin laughed. “I promise”

He was happy for Jin. But he still felt sad, hurt, forgotten, and left behind.

“I hope you have a very good life ahead. Best of luck, Jin.” Kame said with a smile.

Bittersweet. This day was nothing but bittersweet.

Kame gave Jin a smile, turned around, and walked away.

Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you, too
Don't forget me, I begged, I remember you said
