Melissa's Life Extravaganza Post Fall 2006

Nedra left a message on my livejournal telling me to update. Which was interesting, because I didn't know that Nedra knew what my livejournal was... but I suppose she does, and if Nedra wants me to update, well... hells yeah I'll do it.

Last time I wrote was about... oh... 11 weeks ago when I was going to OU Weekend. So... I guess I can start somewhere back there...

OU Weekend - Well, OU sucked... but OU Weekend sucked. I mean, it wasn't awful, but it definitely wasn't the best OU weekend possible. We got a drunk girl during Hat & Tie to make fun of for the rest of the semester though, and... that's always good. Sarah was a gracious recipient of the Falling Star award (well, kind of). But what do you expect when you're the next Nancy Lu? Oh, that reminds me, I created a Special Edition of the Edition. Since we're not allowed to technically have one anymore... I decided to make one for fun. It wasn't too bad. I got it out in time for our dress rehearsals for the show. Which brings me to my next topic!

Dance to the Music! - The Longhorn Singers Fall Show for 2006. It really wasn't bad. Aside from the fact that we were singing the world's most random music, in the most random order, with some really dramatic pieces that no one cared for (*cough*Masquerade/Elysium*cough*) it wasn't bad. If anything came out of all of it, it's that I discovered the Annie Lennox song "Into the West." Well, I didn't discover discover it... but I learned about it. It was from the LOTR movie--the last one, actually--so you'd think I'd have already known it, but I guess I just never paid attention to it. It's probably one of the world's most beautiful pieces, and... on the first night of the show--I cried. It's a moving piece. You should check it out sometime.

Regina Spektor - Not sure how this fits into the order of things (not like I'm really doing anything in order), but whatever... I love her. I bought me and LC tickets for her show... and it was amazing. She played at Antone's like... November 10th or something like that, and... well, it was just one hell of a show. She's fuh-mazing. If you haven't already checked her out, I strongly suggest that you do so, because... she's the shit, basically. Especially if you're into love songs--but not really into love songs. =D

Okay, back to some kind of order (I'm going through facebook to figure out what else I've been doing with my life)--

LC/Schutte/Shirelle bday - LC and Schutte had their birthdays on the same night. If Singers was all about making life more difficult than it needs to be (and of course we're NOT) then it would've been quite a headache. But... it wasn't a big deal at all. The parties ended up mashing up anyway. A great night--except for the fact that our poor birthday girl, LC, got her iPod stolen on the night of her birthday. Suck!

Anne's birthday - Lisa, Mike & I... and of course my brother David went down to Corpus to visit the Guthries... and to visit Anne for her birthday. It was a kind of dark, rainy weekend, and... there really wasn't much to it. The Guthries treated us to a fabulous dinner (at a super shnazzy place). Only stayed there one night. I played with Lucy a lot though. She's a sweetheart, and probably one of the funniest and cutest kids on earth! What a beautiful family.

Halloween '06 - The picture pretty much sums it up. Drunken Hogwarts goodness. In case you can't tell, I'm Cho Chang--cause I'm asian... and LC is Hermione. We started out with Night o' Magic and then a couple days later had some Joanna Shelton. It was a good weekend, all in all. Oh, and me & LC spent the night at Johnny's, something that hadn't been done in one hell of a long time!

Patrick's Kegger - The same night as the Regina Spektor concert, Patrick & Jeff threw a Kegger at their apartment. One of a few that they had that semester, but probably the biggest and most successful. We had a good time. I got to know the neighbor ladies better. That was cool. Oh... and Billy was high the entire night. THE ENTIRE NIGHT! But, whatevs... it was a great time!

This is where Dance to the Music happened, but I already talked about it, so whatevs. But of course...

After the show is the After Party! - Our bitch pipe, Jack, was gracious enough to allow us to have our after show party at his casa. Of course... we got in a wee bit of trouble, but whatevs, in the end, it worked out great! Well, for me anyway, haha. We all had a great time, and Jackie was a little tipsy, which is always nice!

The Format - also The Gym Class Heroes. Came to Emo's. Me & LC enjoyed it quite a bit. Oh and we took a picture with the hot guitarist that stood above us the entire time. Mike. Beautiful beautiful man. And yes, that is the Shocker... Brad made me do it.

Thanksgiving - Thanksgiving was fab--especially the mini Thanksgiving that the 10 or so Singers had when we went to Pluckers together after our 45 minute class. Good times =D I love Singers... and doesn't this picture make us all look like a melting pot? I think so.

A&M game = ... I really wanted Tacos on the way up there. That's all I'm going to say about that game. Oh... and I got shitfaced. That is all.

Venus & Mike's wedding - With a Groom's cake that looks like that, what else would you expect but a rockin' good time? This was also the weekend that I met Alan, Chi Thu's boyfriend, for the first time. He's really awesome. I really like him. I can't wait to see him again. The kids and all of us went to Kemah that weekend... and I ran into Justin VanSant, quite the eventful weekend, I guess. =D

Tina's wedding - LC was my beautiful date for my friend Tina's wedding. It was LC's first time in Houston... but unfortunately, I couldn't show her around too much... a lot of it having to do with the fact that we were only there for a day and we had a wedding for most of that day. Oh wells. All in all, it was pretty good. We were supposed to hang out with James, but whatevs... he flaked on us! Haha =D

Holiday Concert - we sang at the Holiday Concert with the other choirs for the first time in years. It wasn't that bad... except it made me think of Region choir... cause I felt like I was being judged by all the singers the entire time. It's not all in my head. It was outwardly said by people in other choirs to some singers comments like, "Wow, y'all aren't as bad as I thought you were." Or, "Oh... you're in Singers? I guess you're not that bad." I'm sorry, was that a compliment? =D Whatevs. Enough of that.

Patrick graduated! - The same night as the Holiday Concert, Patrick walked for his graduation! Unfortunately, I was stuck singing "I Saw Three Ships". I was able to talk Kyle into taking me to Sullivan's to meet Patrick and his family for dinner. I was supposed to be late, but Sullivan's apparently is typical at making reservations and not being able to fulfill them... so I wasn't late at all! Had a great dinner!

Wine & Cheese - the start of a very Singers-filled weekend. Well, I guess the Holiday Concert was a start, but let's not get technical. Whatevs! Wine & Cheese was good. James was with us! He came up that night to be with me & LC isn't that nice? Anyway, we did our awards, and I'm pretty sure LC had any word that included the word "Bitch" in it... it was great! Then the three of us went home to LC's and watched "When Harry met Sally" which homegirl still has, cause she forgot to return it.

Campoot Fall '06 - ... there's nothing else I can say about that. Campoot was... campoot. I guess all I have to remember from Campoot is NUGI Wars, Elysium, Dry Lake Racing, NUGI Wars, Awesome In The Halls, NUGI WARS, and... there's just too much, really. I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about that night. It was amazing. Oh, and... FALL '04! Oh, and Stephen is awesome for letting us use his land!

Christmas Cookie Night - Kristi hosted it. It was great. She made probably the best apple cider that I have ever tasted in my entire lifetime. There was a little drama--THE BOYS WOULDN'T CRASH OUR GIRLS ONLY PARTY! I mean, isn't that the cardinal rule of girls & guys nights? Losers. It's so weird. Like... the girls really missed the guys. I guess we've all been around each other so much, you just start missing each other. I really missed them. So... we crashed their little Office viewing party. It was great! haha... we made cookies in the likeness of the boys and drew blood and broke off the heads. It was pretty good, actually. Then we went BACK to Kristi's to watch Elf! =D We're cute, I know, you don't have to tell me.

More singers @ McCombs - we sang for some staff luncheon thing. Just another excuse for us to hang out. A couple days later, they had stuff with the Wienermobile... unfortunately, I had a final and had to miss out on that Singers goodness & fun!

LC's Ultimate Houston Weekend - Hosted by Mel & James. We're ridiculous. LC came down to Houston with me and... yeah... we played with James. We did movies, Risk, food, more movies, more food... you know... shit like that. I really don't know what else to say, haha. Oh... we also did A&M. Don't ask, it's all James's fault. Not to worry--she and I sported out Burnt Orange... to be sure there wasn't any loyalty confusion there! Umm... yeah... James & I have been hanging out since then... but we both terribly miss LC. TERRIBLY. As in "I miss you quite terribly" -- Hellogoodbye, "Here in Your Arms".

Okay... I'm done. I've been taking too long to do this. I hope this update was somewhat sufficient.

I miss Singers.
I miss... lots of things.
