Whenever i come to germany, i get this feeling of driving around in a huge motorway ...... like in Indycar or NASCAR. Mostly straights, and everyone tries to go as fast as they can. And i love it.

What use if a this if you can't do this -

Porsche 911/Boxtsrer/Cayman are proper sports cars, while BMW M3/M5 are normal saloons tuned to outrun most cars including Porsches/Ferrari's of the world.

The real killers though are Audi RS4/RS6 Avants. Can you imagine a Station Wagon capable of trouncing almost any car on earth bar the supercars ??

But yah, alas for normal folks - 20/30 yrs of work r thr before such thoughts.

Normal folks??
Is an audi known for its power? I dont think top gear even features it. I heard that the fastest cars are made by relatively new companies, is that true?

normal folks atleast here in Europe can buy a BMW M Series or a Audi RS after 10-15 yrs of work life. And the entry level BMW/Audi/Merc are not that expensive, just about 30% more than the japanese cars which noone anyway buys here.

Audi is known for power ? Kidding me or wat ? Dont you know of the legendary Audi Quattro which redefined the rally world ?

Speaking of Top Gear, just search on Youtube for "Top Gear Audi RS", you will get your answer :)

Oh yeah, have heard about the audi quattro. Will check out youtube. Btw how is audi pronounced? Ow-di or Oh-di? There is a lot of cofusion about that!
How is that BMW has a better association with power than Audi? Have you seen the BMW TVCs with Madonna? Directed by Guy Ritchie, i believe.

Its quite interesting actually. Audi is a relatively new comer in the high end car segment, while BMW has been around for quite some time. Also, BMW makes rear wheel cars while Audi is known for the 4 wheel drive cars.

Audi has a relatively poor image compared to Merc and BMW in India for ex as a result. Most Indians associate Audi with Ravi Shastri :)

And yah, Audi is pronounced as Ou-Di, in german atleast.

hehe yeah
most indians do associate the Audi with Ravi Shastri, who is usually associated with slow batting...

though if you are slightly moreinterested in cricket, you'll associate audi with mark waugh

Ah, BTW a confession of sorts :) I started liking Audi becoz i was a Ravi Shastri fan :)) Infact i stopped telling ppl i liked Ravi Shastri after I almost got beaten up after the India-England match in Australia WC :)

Audi is four wheel drive?? i didnt know that.
I think there is better perception in the minds of indians when it comes to BMW and Mercs thanx to western movies. Somehow the percepation that Merc = luxury and BMW = speed has come through. Thats called branding i guess.
I believe tata is trying to buy jag from from ford.

Audi is known for its permanent four wheel drive system, the thing it introduced to rally world in Quattro. Infact the Audi system itself is now called quattro.

Audi has to work on its image in developing countries, they were busy doing it in developed countries till now. Interestingly, in germany, if you want a sporty normal car, you buy a Audi or a BMW. Merc's are considered retirement cars :)

Even i read that news article, would be a disaster i think. Jaguar has long lived its life, Tata's dont have the engineering knowhow to develop new models for Jaguar, and Jaguar doesnt have the knowhow to improve Tata's engineering in the kind of cars Tata's make.

So buying jag is a bad idea?
Its surprising that the germans beat the americans in automoblie industry.

Buying Jag for the kind of money i guess Tata's will have to pay is not a good idea definitely. If Tata has to buy some company, why not look at Volvo. It's profitable, got some decent cars and has got technology that Tata's can very well use.

As far as Germans beating Americans in automobile industry is concerned, not really a surprise. American car manufacturers knew only how to put big big engines in their cars ... until the fuel prices were low this worked. Now :)
