Vietnam trip part 2

15th July (Day 3) - Can Tho

Not much interesting things on this day. Basically, we stayed inside the Can Tho University campus at Fisheries Faculty (i forgot the full name of the faculty) all day long until night. Some of the students present Power Point presentation about their studies, and then lecturers from both parties discuss about the collaboration and joint project of their research, etc.

So, we walked around the faculty classes and laboratory.
Some of their water filtered system in their lab.

And ummm...i think this is plankton collection.

Can Tho lecturer gave explanation about their research on fishes in Mekong river. So, our lecturer got this poster as a present from them. Quite amazing just to look at the variety of the fishes.

The day ended after we had dinner and get-together with the Can Tho students, they did some shows and performances, singing, and play guitar and harmonica. On our side, we did 'fashion show' to show them our traditional attire for Malay, Indian and Chinese. Some of my friends also did some singing. Everyone just enjoying the night after that boring afternoon.

16th July (Day 4) - Can Tho --> Bac Lieu

On the fourth day, we travel from Can Tho to Bac Lieu at 7.30 in the morning. The journey took us about 2 1/2 hours, Bac Lieu is about 120km southeast of Can Tho. We reached another fisheries which rear crabs.

Well, since the place is a private fisheries, the building is not that big but....
the crab is BIG!! Its the size of two palm of hands!!

Really, i was tempting to eat that crab. But even if we buy it, we have nowhere to cook it. But i want it... TT____TT

After that, we move to another private fisheries of tiger prawn.

Fresh tiger prawn, still alive. They catch a basin of tiger prawn to show it to us and then throw it back to the lake.
They sell it for USD10/kg there. That's very cheap for us, considering that the market price in Malaysia is more than USD18 on normal day.

17th July (Day 5) - Can Tho --> Ho Chi Minh

5 days in Can Tho, and we were back to Ho Chi Minh. Another disastrous 4 hours-pain-in-the-butt inside the bus. But this time we put some of the luggage in front of the bus to prevent another event of avalanche-of-luggage that will risk our friends' life (or their head).

Heavy traffic on the way back to HCM city. Motorcycles are their main transportation.

Passing through the temple of i-don't-know-what's-the-name.
I just love to snap the pics whenever feel like doing so.

The HCM statue.

The big clock.

And Ben Thanh market!! A must-go-place if you come to Vietnam for shopping. Shopping till you drop and out of cash. If its not for shopping,  you must go here, i bet you'll at least buying something. Variety of clothes; shirts, vietnam silk, cotton, chiffon. And of course, souvenirs, lots of pretty and eye-catching souvenirs.

Next time if i come here, i'll at least bring with me USD200 for shopping. At least. (Now i said it two times already). I'll bring more money if i'm going to buy ready-made kurung moden with beautiful embroidery with only USD40. I bet they'll sell it more than USD70 here.

So, we walked around the city at night, while waiting for our friend to finish her body massage (USD12 for 1 1/2 hour).
Here we are, the Opera House. (I think)
How big is the size? If i am to stand in between that two statues, i'm 1/4 of their size.

We went back to our hotel at midnight.
Another 2 more days in Vietnam will be in the next entry. My visit to Cu Chi tunnel, which is AWESOME.
If you haven't read my previous days in Vietnam, its HERE.

YAY!!
