Magic wands are overrated.

Honestly, everyone has a talisman of some kind, but if I've learned anything since coming here it's that I'm a stronger magician for learning to do magic without them.

On another subject: "modern" music -- I assume a large majority of you are from times similar to the ones explored on the pub jukebox, so it is to them I ask ( Read more... )

Are things that frustrating? I'm not certain getting up the nose of every wand-dependent magician is the best way of dealing with this. There are a lot more of them then there are of you, and at least two of them are evil in the insane and aggressive sort of way.

Yes, let's take the wand's side!

Oooo, that frustrating, then. I'm not taking the wand's side, though, silly. I just don't want your frustration leading you into trouble.

I don't care what they think.

I don't care what they think either. I think it's better to not depend on any sort of talisman or mystic item.

But I do worry about what they might do.

I will take your word for it.

[And keep an eye on certain wand wielders.]

Do you think my plan is a bad plan?

Oh.

Uhoh.

What I think...um.

I support your plan. But that does not mean that I believe it will go...perfectly smoothly.

I think that perhaps learning a second path of magic is a bit like learning a second musical instrument, but much more involved. You still have some of the basics, but others are completely different. A harpist learning flute suddenly has to learn different fingering entirely, breath control...you're smart, you get where I'm going with this.

The frustration is natural. After all, you're brilliant at your own traditions, and it can't feel good to go back to the embarrassing dues-paying stage yet again in another. But I believe you'll become a master of both if you choose to. It's just...getting there.
