October will be a crazy month

It's been more than three years, but I will finally be leaving Jacksonville soon. After lots of fits and starts and more than one wrench in the works, Dana and I will be moving to my hometown in Louisiana at the beginning of October. It's been a long time coming, and it's more than a little nerve-wracking, but I am sure that everything will be fine once the dust settles and that 10+ hour drive is over and done with for the last time. It will be nice to be around the family again, and to be able to play with my niece and nephews for more than a few hours.

Dana has a job lined up already, but I don't, because my current employer wants me to freelance for them once I move. They're giving me a laptop and certain as-yet-unnamed other materials so that I can work from Louisiana.

Even better, at the beginning of November, they are sending me (along with a VP of the company) to Stratford-Upon-Avon in merry olde England, all expenses paid. We are going to be setting up and rolling out the European branch of the company with the corresponding version of our software, both of which have pitifully few people currently involved. We will be handling training, setting up a support staff, and all sorts of other things, I am sure.

They are offering me a ridiculous amount of money to do this, and throwing one definite five-figure bonus on top of it, with an additional five-figure bonus at the end when things are done if certain goals are achieved. They're going to set up an apartment, pay all utility and travel expenses, and the only thing that won't be fully covered will be food --- but I was told that wouldn't matter, as most meals will be business lunches and dinners anyway.

It will apparently be a 9-5 gig (or, you know, whatever the working hours are over there) with weekends off. They also said it would be broken into chunks --- work three weeks, get a week off, work three more, etc. Hopefully I can arrange to have Dana fly out there for that week off so we can go exploring. She's been amazingly supportive about this; she told me that I "can't not go." My family is just as excited. I cannot wait. Not bad for something that started as (and mostly continues to be) a tech support job 18 months ago.
