I have a love/hate relationship with that Easter Eve smell of hot vinegar pouring out of my coffee pot. Nothing like doing household chores at 1am when you've been putting them off for weeks.
The Jazz Festival was...boring. They were playing some salsa/merengue shit when we got there (even Rommel and Liz were complaining about it), and once the jazz started, it was just elevator jazz. Very drab and blasé. I swear, this town needs to learn how to throw a proper festival. There weren't too many people there, either; I mean, there were a good number, but not nearly as many as I expected. Yoplait has more culture than Jacksonville.
We stayed around for a little bit, though. It was gorgeous outside; the park is on the river and people were boating and the pure, cobalt-blue sky over our heads was divine. It was indescribably more than divine; I felt something shift in my chest as I was leaning on the railing and watching the brown water lap against the wood beneath my feet, and there was very little that could have made me happier. I felt joy. I was in love with the world and could have drowned in it.
I didn't want to get into a car again, with the day being how it was, but I relented and let Rommel and Liz take me to the pool at our complex (he wanted to go to the beach, but it was near 5pm by this time). Shaun and Dana met us there and we all just kicked back for a bit. Some ducks joined us. Later, Rommel and Liz and I grilled some burgers and hotdogs and watched Napoleon Dynamite, which they hadn't seen. They liked it. GOSH!
Today Rommel and I went to the batting cages at Adventure Landing. It was everything I expected it to be. I was so excited that I was unconsciously flexing pretty much every muscle I have as soon as I got in the cage. Set and ready to spring. It was glorious. One of the machines was broken and it kept spitting balls without the need for tokens, so we took advantage. We must have swung for an hour.
My hair was plastered to my head and my body was streaming with sweat when we were done. I was breathing fire and life flowed through my veins in a way it hadn't in ages. That 32", 34oz. black aluminum bat felt like Mjolinor and I swung until I could barely stand. My left hand has blisters now.
What a great weekend. I am sunburnt and worn out and I will wake up sore and alive and already I want to do it all over again, and more.
