Feeling a little bit hardcore

Dec 21, 2009 22:13

This morning I hauled my ass out of bed at 6:00 for a run. My morning runs have suffered mightily lately as my down time after the NYC Marathon stretches into its 7th week. It's so easy to come up with any handy excuse not to hit the sidewalks at 6:10 when I'm not actively training for a race. But oh...wait a minute...the Boston Marathon is a mere 17 weeks away and HOLY SHIT I HAVE TO START TRAINING, LIKE, UH, NOW... Thus, this morning I slid out of bed, peeked out the front window, saw snowflakes swirling in the light of the streetlamp, contemplated crawling back under my still-toasty down comforter, and then shook my head and said to the cats, "Nope, guys, I'm going out there. I have to get used to this." I pulled on some of my warmer clothing (it was only about 25 degrees) and hit the streets. It was slow going but remarkably pleasant once I got moving and warmed up a little. I ran my 3-mile loop and returned home sprinkled with snow and feeling good. I think this is going to be a good training cycle after all.
