The Stink Smelled Around The World

You know how sometimes you pass a squashed skunk on the road or catch a whiff of one roving around in the underbrush and your reaction is "Phew! That sure is smelly!"

My friends, you have no idea. NO IDEA. Take that smell and multiply it by a MILLION and you have the smell that has settled into every crevice of our house. It is quite possibly the ( Read more... )

Been there, done that. Grew up in the countryside, remember? If the peroxide and baking soda doesn't work on the purse, its done for. So its probably done for. Sorry.

You'll have to assume there are tiny droplets of the oil around your kitchen, which means a peroxide and soda wipedown in there. Cabinets, floors, furniture, anything exposed. Eventually you'll get it all. Letting the dog into the house was a mistake. She got hit, so now its everywhere she's been. You may end up having to repaint some rooms, and it better be glossy paint or the stink will come through.

Skunks are easy to trap but... its probably against the law. With a big fine. And they take your house. You'll want to consult your state fish and game regulations regarding which species qualify as pests and what you can legally do about them. Often the best option is to scare them off. With Racoons, you do this with a series of sandwich bags, folded paper towels, and ammonia. A few drops of ammonia on a paper towel inside a ziplock bag, punch a couple holes in the bag and put the bags around the perimeter of your property. Add ammonia weekly. To a racoon, it smells like a bigger male has claimed the territory. Works with cougars too. Might also work with skunks. Cheap too. And doesn't violate any laws, most importantly.

Hope this helps. You have my condolences.
