I did indeed just submit a letter to the editor regarding the anti-foreign-car-driver screed in my previous post. I'll let y'all know if the Ann Arbor Snooze prints it. This is what I wrote:

I wonder how annoyed they'll be when I ride a motorcycle that isn't a Harley, thus doesn't cost $19K, thus isn't worth nearly as much to steal.

If they want us to buy American-branded cars, then the American companies need to MAKE BETTER CARS. Sheesh.

I have a Volkswagen and my husband has an Audi and a Volvo. The Volvo needs replacing at some point within the next year or two. Guess what? All the cars that are acceptable replacements for it are also European. I hardly see how that's our fault.

I hated that line too, and I counter: "Now that I see how repulsed you are, I'll be sure to do absolutely nothing differently, as I still fail to give a shit about a stranger's opinion of my purchases. Oh, and it only cost me $20.00 to gas up for a week's commuting - how're you doing?"

As mentioned by others, just because the car is branded by one of the Big Three American automakers, doesn't mean it's 100% American made. Most of Detroit's cars are full of more foreign-made parts than American. And, yes, American automakers need to pull their heads out of their asses and start making LOTS more smaller, more fuel efficient cars ( ... )
