Embarrassing Books

This is the problem with books I read... They're all embarrassing at some level.  Not stuff you want to be seen reading on the train, necessarily.  But I'm kind of ok with broadcasting them a bit, because there's so much good stuff.  It's a shame that only really desperate people get these kinds of things explained to them in black and white.  In the Zen book, he talks about washing dishes a lot. He even goes so far as to say to imagine you're washing the baby Buddha as you clean each dish.  And that's the kind of stuff, I think, that puts people off. And, like in the Art of Loving book... a lot of people will be put off and dismissive of the book because of some old-fashioned way of genderizing the concepts, but there is so much useful stuff in there too!

People really need to be more discerning readers, to take from things what rings true and ignore the awkward stuff.
