Glass hanging over a ledge. A gilded, hieroglyphic frame; like Braille to the touch. On either side, soft forest-green sticks. Warm. With wax slipping down the sides, gaining momentum and collecting in pools along the bottom. A golden timepiece, entombed in an enchanted glass case, sits under the mirror on the ledge. It announces eleven o'clock. Always on time, thanks to its magical shield. Makes me wish I had one - an invisible enchanted case, to make me and keep me perfect. Maybe if I had one I wouldn't have gotten myself into this mess in the first place.
A cat dozes next to me as I lounge to another rerun of "Will & Grace". Thick, black stripes on a mottled gray-brown canvas. Beautiful, almost exotic-looking, she is.
I yawn and stretch, releasing myself from the grasp of the family room sofa, television, and watchful glare of the timepiece. My actions are mimicked by the dozing cat. I brush my teeth, wash my face, slip on my sweatpants and t-shirt, and plunge my feet under the dense cloud of purple encompassing half of my small bedroom.
That was the first night I dreamt of the dragon.
