((this is another really long entry, but read it anyway.))
wow, ok, where do i start? on thursday my brother and i went to sumner to my grandma's house. friday morning ruth (my grandpa's cousin), chris and i left for milwaukee. we went to the milwaukee summerfest on friday and just kinda walked around the park all day to see what it was like. we saw some band called boxkar, and they were pretty good.
this summerfest is the biggest music festival in the world, 11 stages, 11 days. on thursday night chevelle was there, and friday crossfade. we didnt see either one of them cuz ruth doesnt like to drive in the dark and those shows didnt start until 10. so then on saturday morning we went to a different hotel that was only like 10 blocks from the summerfest. this hotel is the same hotel that all the bands are staying in. that night we went to the fest and saw breaking point, submersed, and theory of a deadman. that concert was awesome.
sunday morning we call roy (ruth's son who is the road manager/head sound guy for shinedown) to see when and where we're going to meet him. so we go to the park at 9 am, and it doesnt open to the public until noon. ruth talks to the dude at the gate and he's not sure if he should let us in. and ruth was like "oh its ok, we'll just call roy." and then he's like "well... just come in." so we find roy and he tells us that the band (shinedown) is going to be asleep until like noon in the bus. so roy introduced us to a lot of people, like corey who is like roy's "assistant", but corey's just basically there to help things run smoothly. and we met/talked to the bus driver and we met a lot of other random people that tour with shinedown. so then we go on stage and just like stand there and watch the guys set up the stuff for the sound check.
then chris is like "hey, i think thats the drummer," and sure enough, it is. his name is barry. and roy brought him over to introduce us. barry was really nice. we talked with him for a little bit and then he had to go back to putting the drum set back together and such. eventually the rest of the band came out for the sound check and we stood in the sound tent/pillar thing that has the like motherboard with all the buttons and stuff that control the mics and such, with roy. it was like a mini concert, which was cool. and then roy had to go back to the bus to get something, so we followed him.
so we're standing outside the tour bus and brad, the bassist, comes up and introduces himself to us. he was really nice and funny too. and chris was like "so you play the bass... i started like a month ago... im not very good" and brad was like "hey, im not that good either. and i've only been playing for 20 years." and then jason (lead guitar) came out and he was like oh, you're roy's mom! and gave her this huge hug. and we talked to him for a while and jason told us to come in the bus. we really didnt meet brent, hes the lead singer. roy says that brent is really quiet, like he said you dont know that he's there until you see him.
it was really really cool. we hung out in the tour bus with the band like all day. we got autographs and stuff. it was awesome.
and then we got backstage passes for the actual concert and so chris and i stayed in the motherboard tent/pillar thing for most of the concert. but then we went to the backstage people area for the last half of the concert. we didnt see the band at all after the concert, and we didnt get any pictures with them. but seriously, it was awesome. i dont really know what else to say.
oh yeah, and apparently roy has toured with a ton of bands. he said he couldnt list them all off if he wanted to. but they include chevelle, theory of a deadman, shinedown (obvioulsy), velvet revolver, van haling, and i really cant remember who else. but he's been with shinedown for 2 or 3 years now. and he's really good friends with the guys from chevelle. so maybe i'll meet more bands... who knows...
