"Yeah...well, I'm not big with the formal moves and stuff, so you might be able to teach me a thing or two, but I've done a fair amount of fighting with a sword," I say. "Haven't practiced in a while--I was on an extended trip--so I'm probably pretty rusty. So if you want a little private practice with the sword, I'd be happy to get some. You could come early, before the others get there. I use this training room behind a store...uh, the Magic Box?" I'm thinking fast; I could get Giles to stop by, maybe take a peek in and see what he thinks of Amanda's abilities.
"That would be great!" I smile. "I'm not sure what you could learn from me, but I'd really appreciate some practice. I think I can find the Magic Box." This would be good. Because really with everything going on...All the help I can get might still not be enough. Stupid blood sorcerers.
"Awesome!" I say. "And actually, I have a ton of different weapons stashed back there, you could try some of them out, if you like." I like Amanda's enthusiasm. She's much more sure of herself with the fighting than she was picking out the prom dress.
"oh. You take it really seriously don't you? the demon fighting I mean." It's weird. You hear stories. It's Sunnydale. But I'm wondering if it's like Buffy's job or something. She says she knows alot about fighting demons.
"Yeah, it's kind of...what I do," I say, looking down. I don't know how much to explain to her, what all she knows. Finally I decide to just ditch the secret identity thing and see how she takes it. "I'm something called a Slayer. My job to keep the monsters at bay."
I look at Buffy, thinking, this makes a weird kind of sense. "That's a good thing then, right? I mean, ...There's lots of monsters, so having someone to fight them is important." I think about all the stuff thats happened. "Some one needs to stop them. You can't let the monsters win."
Yup, that's me. Not lettin' the monsters win." I say, a small smile in her direction. "I was really pissed they invaded prom, prom should be sacred," I add, a little heatedly. "But we stopped them, and you and your wolfy friend helped a lot, which is so cool." I SO don't want her to feel bad about what she can do.
I think about prom and the numb feeling just comes back. I don't wanna think about prom. "Yeah, that could have been a lot worse." Shudder. "I'd think I'd rather not think about it."
I shouldn't have brought that up, she's still gun-shy. "Sorry, I know how it is," I say. "But...I'll give you a call on the self-defense stuff, and you just keep doing what you are, it's good. And yes, bring Janice along, it'll be fun." I smile, hopefully encouragingly, and head back to the car.
