For all the oversized coats.

Round here, we're carving out our names,
Round here, we all look the same.

Round here, we all talk like liars -
(but we sacrifice like lambs)
Round here, she's slipping through my hands.

- Round here, Counting Crows

Tonight I saw a girl walking home and talking on the phone. Listening to my Iphone, I waited with her for the cars to pass on Washington Street. Once the street was clear she passed in front of me, her hair was long and pulled back in a lazy style. Her coat was long, warm and clearly oversized for her small frame.

And I thought: someone loves that girl.

I was reminded in that moment of all the times someone gave me a warm coat on a cold night. Something warm and protective, that would look remarkably huge( almost ridiculous) on my tiny frame. I though about the loan of countless sweaters and coats, the loan of warm dry socks on rainy nights. Of kindness and hospitality, and all the people that have tell us they love us in tiny ways - and make our lives wonderful in the process.

I know when you see a small girl in an oversized coat that means: someone loves her.
(I know this because you have taught this to me.)

Thank you for all the coats, sweaters and socks.

I love you too.

good days
