Day Five: Less Busy, More Sniffy

Apr 05, 2013 18:56

Well, this morning started out very exuberant, which I think will be a trademark registered of little Vroom Vroom Vrona. She

loves, and I mean loves! her food, and she nom nommed it all down quite quickly, though I must give her points for chewing.

I worked her out to park, and she did a very nice job. She was a little sniffy, but I am not sure how much of that may have

been her desperate need to pee. She gave me a one and a two this morning, so I don't think we will have a Vrona who needs to

empty on route this morning.

With all of the zip and zing that was my morning routine with her, I neglected to grab the key to my room, so we got locked

out. The key card that TSE staff had on hand had been deactivated, so I needed to venture to the lobby for a new key. At

first, I was going to ask someone to walk with me, but I figured that the worse that would happen would be that we got lost,

so off we went. My goodness her work is beautiful! We went to the lobby, got a new key and came back. No peeps were given

while I took my shower, and now she is resting at my feet once more.

Oh, I also must mention that when Vrona gifted me with output this morning, her trainer was just a few feet away. I am so

excited to see her really making the switch. She is all kinds of wonderful! We are going to go into town this morning for a

route, and then this afternoon, we are going to get more equipment for the dogs and learn how to use said equipment. No trip

this afternoon, so I think the little one and I will go exploring.

This morning's route was once again quite awesome. We needed to rework a sidewalk barricade, but on the second try, she did it

very well. There were cones with caution tape, and the entire span of the sidewalk was blocked. In this situation, the dogs

need to move to the street, wait at the curb for our command to go into the street and then hug the curb until it is safe to

go back onto the sidewalk. There was a planned dog distraction, and Vrona did a wonderful job ignoring it until the other dog

got into her face. At that point, she did turn her head, but with a gentle verbal reminder, she got right back on track. We

have a practice solo of the route tomorrow morning, and then our actual solo is on Sunday morning.

I came down to the lounge this afternoon so that I could groom the little one, and now I am just waiting for the other

students to finish up to head back to town. I am regretting my choice to not do a route this afternoon, but I thought we had

the choice of this afternoon or tomorrow morning, so I opted for tomorrow...only to find out that I could have gone both

today and tomorrow. Ah well. At least I got the girlie groomed and she looks lovely! One more student in our group is

finishing up her walk, and then we will head back to the hotel to get equipment.

Just kidding! I got to do the route with little Vroomvroom, too, and she did such a good job. She was distracted by one

little dog, but she responded nicely to correction and got moving pretty quickly again. I am glad we went, and I think she

is, too.

I am now waiting for 8:00 so I can run Vrona out for the last time. We will then be heading up to the common lounge for milkshakes!

More for my need to track than anything else, right now, I am really frustrated by her desire to sniff everything. She wants to sniff under every door we come up to, and she ducks her head down, so it is completely obvious and rather annoying whenever she does it. She is very very food motivated, which is a wonderful and terrible thing, depending on the circumstances. Vrona doesn't just sort of do anything. She goes all the way, all of the time. I am not discouraged, just frustrated. I hope all can understand that they are two completely different things.

It is now time to run her out one last time. So, until tomorrow...
