Your mother has been fundamentally altered! {JAFAX 15}
So I went to JAFAX on Saturday. For those of you that don't know, JAFAX was my first con. It's a very small, free 2 day event at Grand Valley State University. It's not worth getting a hotel room, so I've just gone on Saturday for the past couple years. I only even started coming back because my friend Betsy goes and I don't see her any other time really, with a few exceptions.
This year was rather fun! I started off wandering and looking for Betsy while trying and failing to reach her via cell phone (she had it turned off and had forgotten to turn it on). During that time, and throughout the con, I got tons of comments on my shirt, since I was wearing the "I can see Alaska from my house!" shirt I bought at Acen. At one point a Belarus asked if she could take a picture of it. ngl that was a wee bit awkward, but I didn't really mind, and I've had people taking pictures of shirts I had on before.
After finding Betsy, we did our typical wander around and chat stuff. It was really fun~ Towards the end, we went to a couple panels. Anatomy of Otaku was pretty cool (and get your minds out of the gutter it was just about how the otaku movement came about in Japan), but the state of the industry panel with Tiffany Grant, Amy Howard Wilson, her husband, and Doug Smith was my favorite. It was quite interesting, but the best part was this dipshit that raised his hand last during Q&A.
He was one of those "bawww I don't want to pay for a dub I won't watch", entitled-to-free-fansubs types, and he said some utterly moronic things to a bunch of voice actors. He wasn't even asking a question; just explaining why he watches fansubs. As you might imagine, his "reasons" were bullshit. It was like he was expecting the panelists to pat him on the back and say "poor baby! American anime DVDs just don't suit your needs; feel free to torrent to your heart's content!". Obviously, they did not. At one point he said something about dubs being "ear-bleeding". YOU ARE SPEAKING TO 3 VOICE ACTORS AND SOMEONE WHO IS MARRIED TO A VOICE ACTOR. FAIL. At one point he said something about how he wanted to support Railgun [which will probably get licensed at some point], but it's not licensed now, and if it was it would be "fundamentally altered like almost all American anime releases". That makes no sense; I'm assuming this means "bawww paying for dubs!!1", since he said he's not fluent in Japanese. Betsy commented that "fundamentally altered" proooooobably meant "translated", and we made a ton of immature "fundamentally altered" jokes afterward.
