the real world is when you realize you have no hope and stop pretending

1) Maine voted down gay marriage. This was in spite of the couple months head start, the greater funding, and the geographic advantage of liberal New England. That makes 31 states that have voted it down by popular vote on referendem, every single time it comes on popular vote, it gets voted down.

2) Gay marriage on agenda for New York Senate. Doubtful that will pass.

3) Climate change summit in Copenhagen in December is looking less and less likely to produce the kind of international agreement it needs to. Have been following the climate change news closely for polisci class (among other environmental news) and it is depressing that fewer people today believe in climate change and that fewer people see climate change as a serious priority.

4) Even more depressing when I go into biodiversity seminar believing in conserving biodiversity and it turns out that perhaps biodiversity is not as important to all contexts as previously thought and that overcoming the social and economic challenges for those alternative methods will be very difficult.

5) tired. very tired.

straightening no rainbows, global climate change
