I decided to avoid snarkiness on shipping in the poll. Which doesn't mean one cannot get snarky in comments. *g*

Hi. I followed a link here. I hope you don't mind.

The first scene of the pilot (which I missed as I was busy getting drunk in Daytona and getting the nickname Becker that very day) sets up he entire feel of the series. My frist episode was either The Witch or Teacher's Pet and continued to watch as I (wrongly) thought I knew Alyson personally from somewhere. Then I saw The Pack and was hooked. I saw the rest of S1 a bit out of order (last ep I saw was Angel), but saw the rest of the seasons in order, though I still to this date have never bothered to see Seeing Red as I hated that season. In my opionion, it wasn't "too dark", it was horribly written.

Season one is absolutely the best place to start, but I do know that the people who loved the later seasons the most were the people who started watching at that point.

The hardest poll question for me was he "favorite character" one as I only liked Buff in S1. I loved, loved, loved Willow until they totally changed her character, not into a lesbian, that was fine, but from a naive genius into an idiotic five year old. I liked Xander and Giles, but both became useless and especially with Xander, his many accomplishments (briging Buffy back from the dead! in PG) were always ignored, even by him. The changes of so many of the characters and the drop in the quaility of writing (no subtext, just beating you over the head text like in Wrecked) drove me away.

The best thing about S1 is that the set up separating Buffy form the Master worked, that it only had to go 13 episodes and he didn't need to be in every ep, it kept him from getting old. Also it didn't have the issues of stretching it out over a whole seaons and then suddenly needing General Exposition tied to a pole to sum things up so you could have a finale where horses carrying armed and armored men are faster than a Winnebago and...I'll just nip that rant in the bud. At least S2 and S3 were able to shift things around by shifting who the big bad was from Spike to Angel, from Trick to the Mayor and Faith. Glory couldn't hold a whole season. Adam just had no emotional attachment to anything so fighting him had no impact, the first was boring as shit as it couldn't actually do anything and Caleb was such a cliche and Nathan's accept annoyed me. The Trio fo Weevil was annoying (though occasionally fun), but Evil Willow was stupid. (Evil Vampire Willow was awesome)
