Lorne goes to summon General Hammond to return to rescue Rome from Lucius. John goes to the prison to try and get Elizabeth out but ends up being arrested himself. Jack and his wife are also arrested (Laura and Radek left Rome with Daniel to continue preaching), and Elizabeth must watch her foster parents sacrificed to the lions. Jack makes a bold speech, however, before he dies, telling the mob that Lucius is to blame for the fire. Daniel also appears, having been summoned back to Rome by a vision, and is also arrested and killed. Before Daniel dies, he marries John and Elizabeth while they wait in the jail cells.

Chaya, wanting revenge on John, arranges to sacrifice Elizabeth in a spectacle. A large bull is brought into the arena, and Ronon is left to guard a bound Elizabeth from the beast. John is brought to the Emperor's pavilion and forced to watch helplessly as Ronon fights the animal, and in a moment of desperation, John prays to Christ to help Ronon.

Ronon is victorious, and the mob is calling for both Ronon and Elizabeth to live, but Lucius, angry at the outcome, turns his thumb down on them. John manages to break free at that moment and leaps to the floor of the arena. Lorne and John's men, who had been waiting, flood the field to protect John and the others and Rome rebels against the evil Emperor.

Lucius kills himself when the mob kills Kolya, the head of the Praetorians. Actually Kate kills him because he lacks the nerve to do it all himself. Kate disappears afterward.

John and Elizabeth leave Rome with Ronon to go to John's estates. They are joined by Teyla, who has freed the rest of Rodney's slaves and means to return to her homeland and try to find her own people. Along the way the gather Radek and Laura to journey with them, while John begins to accept the new religion of his wife.

in the original story the Teyla character kills herself because she's so crazy in love with her master she doesn't want to live without him. I so wasn't gonna go there...

Jesus that got way longer than I realized.

Whoa... it's like Gladiator meets Francine Rivers' Mark of the Lion trilogy (the absolute best Christian fiction EVER written. Actually, some of the best historical fiction every written, period).

It also reminds me somewhat of The Robe, though I've only seen that once.

I haven't seen "The Robe" myself. It's the only big epic film of that type I haven't seen.

The original novel "Quo Vadis" was written by a Polish nationalist and is a metaphor for the suffering of the Polish people under the rule of Russia. The writer went on to win a Nobel Prize for literature.
