I wonder if it is possible to keep politics out of religion. We have political orientations and they affect how we see the world, and this includes religion.

One thing that has struck me recently--because I hadn't really thought about it--is that there is a kind of a culture war going on between liberals and conservatives who both claim to the Christians.

Sometimes it seems like this battle is due to the way that fundamentalist Christians and liberal Christians read the Bible. But I really think it is a political battle in our society. I wonder where it will lead. I find it scary--although there are so many things right now that are scarier I don't think about it much.

Personally, I don't think that it is possible to defend a right wing or left wing political stance using just the Bible and absolutely win an argument--based on the Bible. This is because the Bible is not a systematic document and it has to be interpreted. But it often seemed like people who say they are following the Bible exactly had a leg to stand on even if it often seems that they are also ignoring other parts of the Bible in their defense of right wing goals like no taxation, laissez faire capitalism and the death penalty.

Well, they just showed their hand. http://www.conservapedia.com/Essay:Adultress_Story
