I made
this along with honey glazed chicken and jasmine rice for dinner - it's quite good. I omitted the peanut butter and didn't add mint but instead doubled the cilantro and I added mango for some tropical flair but it's really quite good - I kept sneaking bites of it while I was cooking a bolognese sauce for dinner tomorrow and the chicken. Then again, I sneak bites of almost everything I cook - that's why I never have pretty pictures like
m0rgen does. But I did take some pictures this time but they're not the best ones in the world since it is a camera phone and all.
Strawberry Banana bread that is almost half gone at this point because, really, what is better than warm, crusty banana (strawberry) bread with a glass of milk?
The bolognese along with my dirty stove (I had been making the slaw and chicken beforehand so that's little cabbage pieces all over the stove along with splatters from the sauce because as I've said before, I am NOT a clean cook). I am half torn between thinking it looks really good and that it looks vaguely like blood and guts. The ground pork was the organic stuff and for some reason, it refused to crumble properly therefore it looks more like sloppy joe sauce than bolognese sauce but I like my sauces meaty anyway so it's okay.
Peanut and honey glazed chicken with jasmine rice.
Asian slaw in my oh so useful Nigella mixing bowl. I
The Mario Batali bolognese recipe called for bacon, butter AND oil so I nixed that one right away because it just sounds a little too rich and fattening (Oh my god, did I just say that?). So instead I just sort of made up my own little recipe using the ground pork, some veal stock, onions and garlic sauteed in butter, basil, a pinch of rosemary, olive oil, tomato sauce, and some other things that I can't even remember - a splash of whatever wine in a box is sitting in my fridge, some fresh ground pepper, kosher salt and so on. Christopher and I kept commenting on how good it smelled but we all know that smells don't count so that's why I put some in a mug and made him taste it - it was good so I threw together a cucumber, tomato, onion and goat cheese salad for tomorrow and that shall be dinner.
Obviously, today was a slow day for us - we went grocery shopping, cleaned up the kitchen a little, bought a few books then came home to read and cook. We're watching Good Eats right now but after this, I'm hopping in the shower and then going to bed. I have work tomorrow which sucks because it was supposed to be my one day off but that's okay - hopefully I'll have Monday or Tuesday off because I'm working until at least Sunday, if not more depending on the schedule.
