Christ.... I win some damn certificates and the week turns to shit. A lady ran a red light as I was making a left hand turn onto a busy street (I had the green turn light) and hit me. I'm okay outside of a migraine but the front quarter of the (NEW) car is totaled -
the tire is smashed in, the steering wheel won't turn, the body is dented and the headlight is smashed. She then proceeded to spend five minutes or so yelling at me spanish (or something close to it) and then scream "YOU RUN THE LIGHT" or at least she did until the witness showed up. She pulled up in her Lincoln Navigator and says "I saw everything, would you like my name and number to give when the police show up? I have to go to work but I want to help". Sure, I say, but just for curiosity sake, can you tell us what you actually saw. She then said "I had the red light and you (points to me) had the green light and then she (points to the lady) came up on my side, ran the light and hit your car". I was on the phone with Christopher at the time and admittedly, I started doing a little dance and telling him "SEE! I TOLD YOU I DIDN'T RUN THE LIGHT" because he was starting to get pissed because the lady kept screaming that I ran the light. The witness writes down her name and number and leaves and at this time I tell the other lady maybe we should exchange insurance information before the police arrived (I had my cell in my hand the second I realized she was going to hit me so they were dispatched immediately). She tells me that she has to go pick up children, opens the back door to her Accord and shows me the car seat. I tell her that we have to wait for the police and she says she has to leave so I ask for her name and number. She tells me no, she has to leave, throws a piece of paper at me that has a man's name and insurance information on it and gets in the car. I tell her that I'm going to write down her license plate number and she gets agitated and peels out of there. I wrote it down and waited for roadside assistance to show up. The police never showed up (over an hour) but one cop did call me and spent 15 minutes shooting the breeze (and asking if I had a boyfriend or husband who could come "be with me in this stressful time or do you need me to come over there right now?") before informing me that if I didn't need him to come right away for an emergency, there was a bank robbery he had to get to. His stepmother came and picked me up then we drove to the police station where Christopher met us after taking the day off work. It's around that time that I call her insurance and I'm informed that no adjustors are available but "they'll be back tomorrow at 8". Fine, I file my claim with some peon, file the report with the police and we go home. This morning Christopher calls her insurance and they inform us that there is a "coverage issue". Lo and behold, she's not on the policy. The car is but she's not, only her husband so they're not going to cover it. That's fine, our insurance will but that's not really the point - she's driving around uninsured and possibly unlicensed and definitely unsafely. I'm sure our insurance will go after her but I'm so pissed, I want to go to the cops but here in Houston, they could care less. In fact, in a moment of irony, we turned on the news last night and what was one of the stories? The twenty five most run red lights occurring in accidents in Houston.

Anyway, I called off work yesterday but I told them I'd be there today since we did get a rental car and Christopher is off from now until Monday and I'm Saturday through Monday. So, I'm off to work, wish me luck.
