Pokemon White ramble

I really really like Pokemon White. It's an awesome game, and I love the majority of the pokemon, I like the changes that are made (Using TMs repeatedly? Fuck yeah!). However, there are some things that I need to ramble over.

For the record, I've only just gotten my fourth badge. So these things may change!

I know this has been done to death, but holy crap N you are a creeper of the highest order, with your I CAN SPEAK TO POKEMON and the kidnapping a teenage girl onto a farris wheel and being a cult leader. You're like a creepy rich kid who mouthbreaths all over young girls.

Let me also say that while the ghost-types have never been afraid to be creepy, Yamask scares the shit out of me. A pokemon that was once a dead person, who came back to life, and retained their human memories? Holy fuck. There are several very scary things about this.
  • You are aware of your own death, and are now trapped inside the body of a pokemon.
  • You can't speak, and therefore, can't track down your loved ones, or even speak to them if you find them. They will only see you as a pokemon.
  • You can no longer do anything that you enjoyed doing before. You will spend the majority of your time trapped in a creepy cave, and being forced to battle other pokemon.
  • If you're captured, you will become a pet to another person. I know the whole pokemon / trainer relationship thing, but I can't help but picture having it happen to an ex-human as at least a little unsettling.
  • Yamasks are adequately powerful pokemon. What if they, remembering their past life, decide to use their powers against people who have wronged them in the past? Having evil ghost pokemon trying to attack humans sounds like a bad idea to me.
The thing that bothers me the most is that HOLY FUCK DO YOU NEED TO SHOVE YOUR HAPPY SOAPBOXES DOWN MY THROAT ANY MORE. The next person who helpfully reminds me that PEOPLE AND POKEMON LOVE EACH OTHER FOR FOREVERSIES will get a punch in the throat. Mentally.

I thought that this would have moral dilemmas in it. I love the idea of looking on the relationship with humans and pokemon. We've been told since Red that in an ideal trainer / pokemon relationship, everybody's happy. But I wouldn't mind taking a deeper look, maybe having some internal debate. We could take a look at what the pokemon really think about it. What they get out of battling each other.

Instead, every five steps, some random stranger helpfully reminds me that POKEMON AND HUMANS LOVE EACH OTHER FOR FOREVERSIES OKAYS. I guess it could be argued that this is still centered for the younger crowd, and domr people think that the younger crowd need their anvils dropped heavily and without mercy. But I promise that all of us can handle letting us second-guess ourselves and our mission in life.

Perhaps I'm wrong, and they'll send more reinforcement that the idea of happy idealistic funland is not all that it appears to be. But right now, the anvils are hitting hard, and I'd rather be given a looser leash to come to my own conclusions.

Also I hope we get to wear Team Rocket clothing again because that was seriously the happiest moment in my memory of playing pokemon. Until my rival tore my clothes off. |:
