It's a poem by Dorothy Parker called "Interior" It has absolutely nothing to do with anything. I just came across it again recently.
Dorothy Parker's
Interior
Her mind lives in a quite room,
A narrow room, and tall,
with pretty lamps to quench the gloom
And mottoes on the wall.
There all the things are waxen neat,
And set in decorous lines,
And there are posies, round and sweet,
And little, straightened vines.
Her mind lives tidily, apart
From cold and noise and pain,
And bolts the door against her heart,
Out wailing in the rain.
Dorothy Parker is one of the most quoted American women of all time. She was infamous for her sarcasm and wit.
My favorite of her one-liners was supposedly originaly issued while at a party. At one point a drunk young man bowed down in front of her and lifted her skirt over his head. She allegedly looked down at him and said,
"Snort twice if you find truffles."
