Been watching a lot of Korean drama lately. Started with Goblin, which was a cinematic awesome view with great content and you really attached to the characters. You want to fight for them and root for them, and help them. They were great, well written.
Since I love Gong Yoo, let's see what other work of his... well Coffee Prince, I can't get into. One Fine Day, didn't grab me. Thought I'd like Big, but the girl was too whiny. I did get to watch some films, those were fine.
Then, decided to follow Lee Dong Wook, and Bubblegum was another great work of his besides Goblin. Blade man dragged on a tad too long, but love the soundtrack.
Then, there's Heirs, which is the same writer as Goblin. They love the challenge the classes, where it is so obvious there's a line and how these characters crosses them. Then, I realized as I'm reading some blog posts, that I love Heirs because they are really the Korean version of Gossip Girls. Ok, you got me there. But having Kim Woo Bin there can't hurt.
Then, following Kim Woo Bin, I watched Uncontrollably Fond, which was a lousy written plot, great acting, however. Also watched Twenty. The other shows he's in is too intense for 2am viewing. But gosh, love that man! He can play good guy and bad guy and you have no qualms about that.
Then, go back to follow Lee Min Ho. I liked Flowers Over Boys, more than I thought I would. Then, I watched Personal Taste, didn't like the female lead, plus he was way uptight, but I like the way he loves the girl and how to apologize to her. Then, he did the Bounty Hunter movie, which was funny and smart.
And in the vain of Boys Over Flower, I followed Kim Hyun Joong, where he just had awesome hair, and did a great job being cool and loving at the same time. Protector yet can love with class. Then, followed up with Mischievous Kiss, because they said he did such a great job. That show frustrated me to no end, because it was so one-sided for the girl, but she persisted and paid off. He didn't come around until 2 episodes to go. The web series paid off more. He uses tough love here...
Then, watched several other shows in between that.
Then, I wasn't even going to bother with Strong Woman Do Bong Soon with Park Hyung Sik from Heirs. But I'm glad I did, it has humor, love and thrill in it. But most importantly, I realized that I love the shows I did, where I've gone back to watch Heirs now 3 times, Boys over Flower 2 times, Goblin twice, and Do Bong Soon, now going on 3 times. And the common theme is that I love the way the men loved their women. The female leads may or may not be lovable to me. But, their steadfastness, to love with their whole heart. Like when they decided that is it, they put 1000% effort into it. The girl can't help but love them. They're willing to give up class, status, life to keep the girl safe and keep the love they have. Now, not all of them work out, a la FOB where with Ji Hoo & the girl, they ended up being soulmate instead of lovers, which made me sad. But Min Hyuk and Bong Soon, the way he loves was just terrific. He calmly confess by bringing up that one step that change friendship to relationship. While that only help her realized that her and her crush was missing that one step, that was his way of telling her. Then, he tells her he likes her like a man, and hoped that she'll reciprocate, very clear message. And the thing that Hyung Sik did well in this show was that he can be super cute, super wise, and super in charge to show strength and vulnerability. Most importantly, the character would take action to show that he loves her and wanted to protect her. He was willing to get stabbed, willing to die with her knowing she has a time bomb strapped to her, and knowing her quirky family and strength to marry her and have kids. This is a man who can fully love... sadly also unavailable in real life. That made me sad too.
Like Ji Hoo, he was too passive, and though we all know he loved her, at one scene, the cool girl at Jeju Island was telling him, the difference is that they don't want it bad enough. That made me sad, because the female lead and Ji Hoo are so meant to be without a beat, but weren't meant to be. That made me sad. Though, he too isn't real in real life, I would've wanted a happy ending for him.
For Kim Tan, it took him a while to work out his mess of a life, but he held true to her the entire time, and I appreciated that. Sadly, Young Do took too long to realized his true feelings and came to the party too late, but otherwise, either would've loved Eun Sung just fine. She's too is very strong to withstand all the turmoil.
Anyway, was just thinking how I love the way Min Hyuk loved Bong Soon... he knew she wouldn't be easy to love, she has her powers, and he can't stop her. But that doesn't matter to him. He knows there'll be time she'll be in danger, but he still want to protect her and not lose the person he loves. He's excited to see her, his heart flutters when she smiles, he wants to kiss her but be coy at the same time. He is willing to put down the walls and be vulnerable in front of her. He just loves her sooooooo much. When she came around and the two finally not he same page, it's just proves how powerful this couple were. I just love the way he loves her.
