I only managed to go on Friday and Sunday as I was simply too wiped out on Saturday to want to deal with that huge of a crowd, and I think I'm happy I made that decision even if I missed the Buffy panel.
Since this is going to include a few photos, I'm going to go ahead and put a cut
Friday I skipped out of work about 2pm, headed home to get a couple things and headed to the Convention Center.
After picking up my badge and getting to the exhibition hall I went straight for Blind Ferret. I picked up the two hardbacks of Looking For Group (Vol II and Vol III) that I had been meaning to get for a while.
From there I just wandered. Found the booth with The Saints, but it was a rather long line, same for Mike Mignola. I found a bunch of nifty pieces of art that I wanted, one I actually bought as a present for a friend. It's going to make me cry to hand this over as I love it so, but the color scheme of the print clashes with my apartment unfortunately.
I also dug through various $1 bins. Picked out some Dawn and Shi comics. Also found Avatar press and picked up a set of Lady Death books that I didn't have.
Somehow I missed the fact James Marsters had his own panel and instead ended up at the Star Trek outtakes one instead at the same time. I also hit the Boondock Saints panel and the Buffy musical sing-a-long, both were quite fun. After those it was home time.
Saturday, yeah, that didn't happen. I had the BPRD and Buffy panels I wanted to hit, but I was simply too tired. I did make it to see James Marster's performance at the Hard Rock Cafe though. It was quite a bit of fun, good music and great banter with the crowd. I only had a smaller camera with me as I didn't think I could get in with my dSLR, I was wrong. Dammit. But anyway, here is at least one okay shot from the show...
Sunday I managed to get off my ass and to the con by 10:30am. Go me! I went straight to the 3rd floor signing area and plopped my ass down in the James Marsters signing line that was supposed to start at 11am. I don't think he showed up until 11:30am; coffee in hand at least. He was very personable and talking to everyone that came through, it was actually quite nice to see. Nicholas Brendon and Clare Kramer were on either side of James, and they too seemed to be quite cool with their fans.
I about choked when I found out Marsters wanted $40 for his signing, I could get both Saints for that. But, I had been waiting 8 years to get something rather specific signed by him, so I simply sucked it up and did it anyway.
You see, back at the first ECCC I found the Spike and Willow action figures, and I snagged them. Then I found out there were variants. Of course there are variants, there always are, but anyway... I had asked for the variants for Solstice from our lovely
killer_queen___ as I knew Jamie would be the one person to be able to find them, and yes, Jamie did. So I have since been sitting on this variant vamped out Spike action figure for a good 8 years, just waiting.
And doesn't it look lovely??
After that was all done with I wandered over to the 501st Garrison's charity photobooth and noted the time when Boba Fett would be there. Yes, I'm a Fett fangirl. Sue me. :P It would be at least an hour before his time frame, so I headed back to the exhibition floor to see what trouble I could get into.
I headed to see Echo Chernik as I absolutely LOVE her work, but alas, she didn't really have anything that would match for my apartment. She deals primarily with warm tones, and my place is all cool tones.
Picked up a few prints from Nathan O'Brien, he had one of Darth Vader that was simply awesome. And I had to get a print of Maleficent by Laurie B. And as I was walking and looking at various bits of awesome art, I happened upon a woman doing sketches. She seems to have been there with G.W. Fisher as I can't seem to find her on the artist list, but her name was Maris. She had a sketch out of Wonder Woman that she did, and she was busily working away on one of Thor that looked awesome, so I asked her if she could draw up a '93 comic era Catwoman for me. While she was working on that I wandered back down to the 501st Garrison's booth. I typically HATE my photo being taken, but I figured, what the hell. So, it was me and the Fett against Chewie. If Han had been available, yeah, that would have been a hard choice to make, Fett or Han Solo. Eep. Anyway, it's not the best photo of me, but it'll do I suppose.
After standing in line to pick up my print I headed back to see how Maris was doing with the sketch as I had been gone for almost 2 hours at that point with all the lines I had been standing in. She was almost done. She drew Catwoman perched on a kitty, and since she knew I had cats, asked me what they looked like. Me being a proud mother of course had a photo of my girls on my phone. She did a quick reference sketch of Abigail, and shooed me away for about 15 minutes while she finished. The result is quite adorable and I loves it!
Since my feet were hating me at this point and there wasn't much else to see as I had seen everything, I wandered downstairs to the main floor to rest while waiting for Tosh to show up. We visited a while, made plans to meet up soon, catch a movie next weekend, and then I headed home.
My evening consisted of finishing watching the last 4 episodes of Hercules Season 4 and starting on Season 5 via Netflix streaming. Will have to see how this season goes as I don't think I ever saw even one episode of it. And for the record, my favorite chick char in this whole series has to be Nebula, that woman rocks. Sure, Atalanta is nifty and all, but Nebula, well, she's my kind of woman. *swoon*
Okay, that's my write up of ECCC, with extra. :P
I need to scamper off and get my ass to work. Wheee!
