I had a doctor's appointment the other day. He said my sugars looked better, but weren't great (running in the high 110's), and my morning fasting sugars were not good. So...I'm now on meds for it. It's called "Diabeta", and I take 1.25 mg with breakfast and dinner. So far, so good. My sugar after lunch today was 85!! :D He said if that medicine didn't work (and he would slowly increase dosage if needed), I would have to go on insulin injections 3x a day, which would suck ass. So, we will hope for no injections.
He also scheduled me for a bunch of tests this week...after my appointment, I had to go to the hospital out-patient facility and have some bloodwork done that would determine if I was diabetic before pregnancy, and they just didn't catch it until now. I had to go back to the out-patient facility yesterday to get an ultrasound done, and a fetal echocardiogram (sp?) to check and see if he has any heart defects. They weren't able to tell me anything yesterday, but the u/s tech said he had all four of his heart chambers, so I suppose that's a good thing. :) He also had the hiccups when they were doing the u/s, which was funny. I could just barely feel my belly twitching after she said he had them.
Today, I had to go for a dialated eye exam, as my doc said that diabetes can affect eyesight. Although I had trouble seeing up close for a bit, that exam was painless, and the optometrist said that my eyes looked good, and my vision isn't really as bad as I thought it was. :D
After my appointment, I felt like I was having a mental breakdown, because I felt like this was a lot to deal with on top of finishing up wedding plans, since Lowell and I are getting married *next* Saturday. Pile hormones on that, and you have a raving, sobbing, psycho pregnant chick. So...I went into work on Tuesday, and asked Carole if I could have a personal day if I could find someone to work for me. I wanted to take Friday off, but I couldn't find anyone to work for me that day, so I'm taking today off. This works out okay b/c one of the reasons I needed it off was b/c my brother is going to be in town, and we need to discuss the wedding ceremony, since we haven't yet, and he's the one officiating. If I were working, we probably wouldn't have gotten anything done.
I'm glad that they caught all of this stuff now rather than later, and I would rather have more tests done than not to make sure that everything is okay with the beebs. It's crappy that it hit right before the wedding, but that's life, eh?
There's more to update on, but I'm going to save it for another day. :)
