You'll have to watch all of your carbs - bread, pasta, potatoes - they all turn into sugar. Yes, I was very grateful for all the Atkins fanatics during this time in my life. There were all sorts of substitutes I could safely eat.
And another thing about the diet - its not always something that has to be very strict. If, say, once a week, you want to have a cookie or something, you can do it. Just watch what you eat before and after. The monitor thing is a bit of a pain, but you get used to it. I had to test four times a day, but after a month or so, since my results were staying steady, they lowered it to only two times per day. I also learned to listen very closely to what my body told me. If I started feeling tired or dizzy, I knew something wasn't quite right. You will need to be careful not to get too low on your sugars either. Not that its particularly dangerous, but its not fun. Its a balancing act, but luckily, its only for a few months.
