HELLO LJ! Oh, man, it feels to good to be able to click my Chrome icon and have it actually work!
So, clearly I'm okay, if a bit stir crazy from the near cold turkey withdrawal from the web. I do have my iPhone, but Safari sucks and closes down on me when I try to load pages. I'm in a hotel in NYC at the moment with
anathema91 - we went to the Big Bang concert at the Pru Center in Newark tonight, and they were Fantastic, Baby! Seriously excellent show, although getting there (and back!) was an adventure without the PATH and very limited service on NJ Transit. It's so nice to do something social, too, after the past two weeks. We had dinner with
kerryblaze and
pixycat earlier, and we'll see them tomorrow as well. \o/
Sandy was quite a storm. My beloved town of Long Beach is basically uninhabitable -- still. At one point, they said the entire island was under water. Everything flooded, though not my apartment seeing as I'm on the 5th floor, but the first floor and the property itself took a beating. Sand, water, wood planks from the boardwalk, which collapsed on my block, and was severely damaged in other places as well. We just got sewage back this past Tuesday (though it went down again during the snowstorm the other night) so I can flush the toilet, but that's about it. No water (for drinking or bathing) and no electricity. I got an email from my building management today and they estimate it will be 3 to 6 weeks before I can move back home.
I'm in NYC this weekend, but otherwise I've moved in with my sister for the duration. But I didn't escape Sandy there. We went nearly 10 days without electric (it came on this past Tuesday night) and Verizon said it'll be at least another week, maybe two before they can restore cable/phone/internet. *CRIEZ* Luckily my brother-in-law had a generator, so while we didn't have heat, we did have power for the fridge and in the den we had some lights and two working outlets to charge our phones and run the coffee machine (!!!!) and toaster oven. Plus they have a gas stove so we could cook by lantern light. The kids entertained themselves watching my stash of The Sarah Jane Adventures and some Doctor Who on my netbook, and I got them started reading the Percy Jackson books (which I also read again because i didn't bring any books with me because I'm stupid. My sister has mostly romance novels and my b-i-l has war/army books and Tom Clancy. They have a better selection on their Kindles, but they were using those themselves. Heh.)
I did listen to my Sirius XM radio on election night - god, I even miss Chris Matthews! - and did the Snoopy Dance of Glee and Gloating. Several times! It was glorious!
Anyway, I just wanted to check in and let you know I'm all right. Currently full of Korean BBQ (it's tradition after K-Pop concerts) and very tired because my niece and nephew woke me up at 8 a.m. and it's now 3:30 a.m. I took pics when I went back to LB but i'll have to figure out how to get them off so I can post them later. Hope you're all well, and happy belated birthdays to

I've missed you all more than you can imagine! ♥ ♥ ♥
