Ok, I am officially amused. Beyond amused. And, I am actually rather flummoxed.
In an interview in the Daily Mail, Russell T. Davies is quoted as saying:
'If you put two people roughly the same age on screen and make itclear they are not brother and sister, then you are telling a love story.'
And fandom is freaking out! Oh noes! That's crap! More headdesking than actual heads and desks can account for! He's an idiot! A fool! He knows nothing!
Um. Hello? Did I miss something?
Though, really, he should have amended it to omit the phrases "roughly the same age" and "and make it clear that they are not brother and sister".
Because in fandom?
If you put two people on screen (or page) then you are telling a love story
It's called shipping. It's a staple of fandom. It's more than a staple. It's a fucking pillar. And nothing matters except the presence of two bodies with orifices, and even that isn't always necessary.
I might expect non-fen to grumble, but when it comes from fandom, sorry. You just sound really silly to me.
I'll just be over here. Amused.
doctor who,
