Yes, but aside from that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?

It started out well - woke up, made coffee, had breakfast, showered, got sort of dressed up (and was very excited when I didn't even need to inhale to zip up my pants!), hair and makeup looked pretty darn good. And then I pulled out of my parking lot, and the drive from hell began. Four miles stuck behind an idiot doing 20 mph, hit every single red light possible, compounded by people just brazenly walking into the street on their way to the beach without bothering to check to see if, you know, a car was bearing down on them. Though really, at 20 mph, how much damage would it really cause. (/sarcasm). Then the joys of getting stuck in Brooklyn and not moving more than a car length for five lights. And monster pot holes from hell. I sort of did a few questionably legal maneuvers, and one completely illegal one considering there were three "No Left Turn!" signs staring me in the face, but I didn't care. It's Brooklyn, nobody pays attention to that shit anyway. Besides, Beth was waiting for me, I had zero patience left, and I was very late. There was also a lot of horn-leaning and unfriendly hand gestures on my part as well, only today it wasn't any fun.

Somehow I managed to get there with about two minutes to spare before 'opening curtain', so Beth only scolded me and didn't totally kick my arse. We went to see Sir Ian "Hung Down to My Knee" McKellen (yes, that's his full name as it appears on his birth certificate) in King Lear, thanks to rwday who wasn't able to use her tickets and bequeathed them to me. I'd never seen Shakespeare live before (I know, shut up), and I really enjoyed it. Despite the fact that it's a tragedy, there were a lot of funny, clever moments, and really, I'd forgotten about those. It's really a tremendous difference from merely reading the play on its own, and I have a feeling I'll be going again to more RSC productions when they're in town again. So thank you again, Becky! It was a wonderful experience! (And I have a program for you!)

After the show, we ended up heading back to New Jersey for dinner. We went to a nice seafood place, and the food was excellent. Except when I went to get my wallet out of my purse and it wasn't there. *sigh* I'd definitely had it when we came in, because we were at the bar and I was going to buy drinks, but then two seats were vacated and we decided to just sit there and eat at the bar. So I put my wallet back in my purse. And sometime over the next hour/hour and a half, it vanished. Since the restaurant was at the Garden State Mall, I called my dad to cancel my credit cards immediately, so I'm not worried about that. What sucks is that I had over $100 in cash in my wallet, and of course replacing everything else that was in it is going to be a bitch. I'll have to use checks until I get my new credit and debit cards, except I can't use checks without my driver's license, so I'll have to go to motor vehicle first thing Monday morning. Maybe I'll get a new picture taken, too. My old one is atrocious.

So that put a damper on the evening, to say the least. But I had no traffic going home, so that was a good thing. And the Mets won today and the Phillies lost. And Beth, the doll that she is, went to an ATM and gave me some cash so I wouldn't be completely broke. ♥ I did get into a fight with my mother, who called and started yelling at me about having my wallet stolen - like I was a teenager or something, and like I did it on purpose just to annoy her. *sigh* I hung up on her, and it's going to be a bit tense for a few days because, of course, I'll have to be the one to apologize for "being rude to my mother" (though of course it's peachy keen when she's rude and nasty and bitchy to me and never apologizes), but, well, she really pissed me off. So that can wait a few days, the way I'm feeling right now.

So, a good day overall, with some really big "suck!" thrown in. But at least I looked good! And Sir Ian really is hung like a fucking horse! :-P
