Yea!

One recommendation down, two more and a personal essay to go.

Explanation:

I am applying for the MLS program at IUPUI to begin in January of 2009 and ran into one slight snag.  I can't depend on anyone at my place of employment to give me a positive recommendation letter because my immediate supervisor is too busy trying to acquire enough written information to fire me.  And I am thoroughly out of touch with all of my previous employers, and haven't spoken to any professors who knew me really well in years.  So, what's a girl in this situation to do when she needs at least three recommendation letters from professors or employers?

She throws herself at the mercy of former professors she took several classes with in the hopes that they remember her, of course!

And they did, they did!

Dr. Caldwell & Dr. Carson from UE are both writing rec letters for me, and Carson submitted his today.  I'm hoping to get the third from a prof at IUPUI that I took one class with but who was really impressed with me....that tends to happen, though, when a person knows more about modern young adult literature than the instructor teaching the class titled "Young Adult Literature".  If he won't/can't/or I can't get a hold of him, a colleague of mine from Covenant of Horus has offered to do the honors; he's seen me teach classes, and knows how much research I put into the preparation for them.  And since I am not going to hide my religion--and will probably bring it up in my personal essay myself as an indication that the requisite research skills never left me--there is no reason for him not to, and no reason for him to obfuscate or speak obliquely about any given topic.

So, I've got two more rec letters and an essay to get submitted before November 15, then I cross my fingers and wait.  I found out thanks to IUPUI's school of education (who did a transcript evaluation when I thought about doing the post-bachelor teaching certificate program) that my overall GPA is higher than I thought--my post-degree classes here in Indy took me up to a 3.2!--so I don't even have to take the GRE!  YEA!!!

Go me, go me, go me!
