So I had waiting patiently and anxiously last week for Fall Break... a chance to be at home with my family, visit a couple of friends whom I hadn't seen in awhile, play with my kitties :). Basically the thing I was looking most forward to was having no responsibilities...no cleaning the apartment, no taking out the trash, no homework, no...well you get the point. The ride home seemed to take forever...I was so anxious to get home. Not like I spent a whole lot of time there Friday night.
I got home around 6:00 to only have Katie pick me up at 6:45 to go to the fair in Columbia. We met up with Garen at her apartment...chilled out. I began downloading songs to burn a CD off of Garen's computer. She has an awesome computer. It is a Mac and the graphics on it are amazing. I am so jealous.
My CD was entitled "L2thaIzapp's Mixamillion" and here is the list of songs on it (not in correct order):
1) Colorblind....The Counting Crows
2) By Your Side....Sade
3) Sedated....The Ramones
4) Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters...Elton John (my new most favorite song!)
5) No One Else...Weezer
6) She's Always a Woman to Me....Billy Joel
7) You Got Me...The Roots featuring Erykah Badu
8) So Fresh So Clean...Outkast
9) Simple Man...Lynard Skynard
10) Karma Police...Radiohead
11) Ain't No Sunshine...Al Green
and I can't remember the rest as of now...will get back to you on that!
Anywho...we met up with Kristin and her boyfriend Ryan...along with two of his friends and two of Katie's friends from Clemson. We had a lot of fun. Kristin and I didn't ride any rides...so at times it got boring...but not that bad. I played a lot of games and won a tiger. Garen won a Taz.
Katie and I got back to Aiken around 2:30. Thinking that I would have a nice long sleep, I stayed up a little bit longer once I got home. Big Mistake! At 9:00, my mom wakes me up to tell me that we had to go to Hilton Head to see my grandparents. My grandmother had fallen in the parking lot of Harris Teeter and broken her hip and was in the hospital. My dad was a wreck...and I quickly realized that this was no time to be selfish. I packed an overnight bag and we piled into the van and headed to Hilton Head. We around around 2:30 or so and went straight to the hospital. It was weird to see my grandma in the hospital having people take care of her. She is so self-sufficient and always tended to my grandfather. She was pale and quite discontent with her current situation. She was mad at herself for falling and causing all this fuss. My dad and mom went to pick up my grandfather at home and pick up the car from Harris Teeter that was left after the fall. I stayed with Grandman and we had a nice chat about school, family stories and television. In a way, I found that this emergency could be a blessing in disquise. I had been meaning to go down to HH for a visit but had never gotten around to it. Both of my grandparents turned 90 this year and it is to be expected that they will not be around much longer. Whatever frustration or disappointment I had of not being able to loaf around all break seemed to dissapate once I arrived in HH. Being there for my father and for my family was more important than sleeping in and being lazy. My father has done so much for me and been there for me through hell and back...it was my turn to be his shoulder to cry on.
We stayed at the hospital until around 6 and then said our goodbyes. We went to my grandparent's home and Grandpa called in a reservation that their country club for dinner. We ate around 7:45 and then relaxed a bit before going to bed. The next day, I wrote Grandma a little note to send with Dad and Mom and I headed home to Aiken. We arrived home at 6:00 and boy was glad to be back.
Sarah and Will came over for dinner and then I went over to their apartment to get Sarah's TV she gave me and some movies. I stayed in and did what I had wanted to do all weekend....nothing!
Today I had a doctor's appointment at 10:30. Afterwards I drove to Augusta to go the mall. I bought quite a few posters for me and for the apartment. It was so nice to be able to drive. Mom and I went to Lenscrafters to get a new pair of glasses for school, makeup and a new purse since I successfully ruined my other one. It is really cool too...it is a blue leather handbag from Nine West...I am in love! For dinner, Mom took me,Sarah and Will out to Red Lobster. I had crab legs, as did will. It was really nice to spend time with all of them. Around 10:00 I headed over to Ricks to hang out. It was great to see almost all of the guys again. I hadn't hung out with them since August. Brian, Corey, Dustin and Dustin's girlfriend Katie were over there. We had fun just joking around and watching TV. I missed those guys! Peter left two weeks ago for San Diego. He is all set up there with a job and an apartment. I am so proud of him...he finally achieved the goal he has wanted for so long. But selfishly, I am upset that I didn't get to say goodbye to him and tell him how much I will miss him. Oh well....what can you do?
Tomorrow I have to go pick up my glasses and go to Studio South to get some conditioner and say hi to the girls. I am going to eat lunch with my mom after that. Then it is back to Charleston with Lindsey.
Although my fall break didn't turn out the way I wanted it to, I wouldn't change a bit of it. I really got what I wanted...I got to be with my family and wherever my family is...that is home.
